(Reuters) - Russia accused the
United States on Monday of double standards on human rights, criticizing its
failure to close Guantanamo Bay prison and its use of the death penalty. "The U.S. claim on the role of
absolute leader in the sphere of human rights is unsustainable and is not
confirmed by practical realities," Itar-Tass quoted the Foreign Ministry's
human rights envoy Konstantin Dolgov as saying to lawmakers.
COMMENTS:
You know, I while I don’t think the source of this criticism
has much credibility on the subject matter, there is some merit to the general
overall opinion. Our government has
consistently given to other countries to help their poor and downtrodden. The fact is, we have plenty of poor and
downtrodden right here in our own country.
Whatever help they get is largely from charities; why not our government? Should we not be taking care of our own
before we try to take care of others?
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Vice President Biden’s brother is said to have used his
influence to make an otherwise failing company super rich. Can you elaborate? (Lincoln ~ Peoria, AZ)
A. The President of Hill International, a construction
company of which James Biden is the Vice-President, bragged that it “pays to
have a brother of the Vice President as a partner.” The company has been in financial doldrums,
but recently landed a lucrative government contract to build 100,000 homes in
Iraq. Company officials say the Iraq
project is slated to generate $1.5 billion in revenues over the next three
years. Biden has no prior experience in
the construction business and has a nominal role with Hill. You can draw your own conclusions.
Q. California Governor Jerry Brown is echoing President
Obama; either pay more taxes or get less school. Either pay up, or we’re going to cut where it
will hurt you the most. We Californians
can’t afford any more taxes; that’s why people and businesses are leaving this
state like crazy, which in turn means less tax base to meet ongoing
expenses. It’s just a never-ending
spiral down. How can we get them to
understand? (Vanda ~ Santa Rosa, CA)
A. Wow, have you ever hit the nail on the head! They will never understand; the only answer
is to vote them out of office.
Q. Why hasn’t someone put together a chronology of all of
the bad decisions and statements that Obama has made during the last four
years? (Angela ~ Boise, ID)
A. I don’t know that nobody has… check the Internet. Or, if you want to shuffle back through my
blogs through early 2009 when I was still wanting to give Obama a chance to
turn out differently than I thought he would, you can catch most of them. Some, I thought were so ludicrous and
self-evident that I just didn’t comment on them. My blogs are on Blogspot… My American
Opinion, We’re Not to Blame, Today’s Best Email and this blog would be the ones
to research.
