The Chief of Security at the U.S. Embassy in Yemin was
murdered while on his way to work yesterday; early indications are that Al
Qaeda is responsible. There have been a
number of killings and assassination attempts on security officials and
politicians this year. A security team
of 50 Marines, sent there after the September demonstrations, was scheduled to
leave yesterday regardless of the security scenario at Benghazi and also
regardless of the accusations of insufficient security in most Middle Eastern
embassies. Testimony Wednesday in a
House Committee investigating the Benghazi massacre revealed that some 10,000
to 20,000 shoulder-fired rockets supplied by the U.S. during the recent Libyan
civil war are unaccounted for.
COMMENTS:
This breaking story was played down yesterday, probably due
to the VP Debate. Nevertheless,
speculation already points to a connection between the Benghazi attack and this
murder. How we can play down the story
of our diplomatic employees being murdered with apparent impunity by Muslim radicals, I
will never know. I shudder what to think
would happen if Iran nuked Israel; would we send in the FBI to sort through the
rubble and find out what happened? Would
we blame a video? Would we cover it
up?
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. We’ve heard several times that a certain Euro fix has
solved all of the problems of Greece, Spain and so forth. Just a few weeks later, things seem to fall
apart again. Once again, they are now in
trouble. When will it end? (Renato ~ Santa Fe, NM)
A. When the Euro goes defunct and the European Union falls
apart; when all of the governments involved rein in their spending. Hopefully, none of this will happen after a worldwide depression, but I have
my doubts. The financial structure of
the entire world is very shaky and we
are certainly not leading the way out of the mess.
Q. What’s going on with the Keystone Pipeline? (Lester ~ Pendleton, OR)
A. Nothing at the moment.
But, you may be interested to know that the Obama Administration has
approved a request from British Petroleum to ship American crude oil to
Canada. And the Canadians are working on
a deal to sell the oil that would have been in the Keystone Pipeline to…
China. Shell is also applying for
permission. The long and short of this
is that we would in essence be shipping our oil to China while our gas prices
go up and our energy supply goes down.
Why isn’t this front page news? Thanks, Mr. President, for all you do.
Q. Is there any more info on the drone that was shot down
over Israel? (Valerie ~ Redding, CA)
A. My thought was that it originated in Iran. Hezbollah came out yesterday and took credit
for the drone. The statement said that
the drone’s parts were manufactured in Iran and assembled in Lebanon. I am sooo glad Obama has everything under
control in the Middle East.
