The deadline for a decision on Sequestration has come and
gone. John Boehner and Mitch McConnell
got called to the White House for another “last ditch effort” to avoid another “looming
and ominous deadline.” Historically,
this is when the Republicans have capitulated and caved in. They did not do so this time.
COMMENTS:
Frankly, I would have placed it at 75-25 odds that they
would cave in. The fact that they did
not is the best thing to happen to this country in years. It is a foregone conclusion that we simply have to do something to save this nation from the “Greece”
complex. We cannot wait any longer. With McConnell and Boehner standing tall in
the face of Obama’s unrelenting pressure and scare tactics, we now have made a
first and significant step in sending a very serious message: It’s time for our government to get its
financial affairs in order. I never
thought the day would come when I could congratulate politicians for having the
guts and courage to do what is right. They
did and I, for one, am thankful.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Now that all of the EPA and State Department objections
on the Keystone Pipeline have been resolved, do you expect Obama to go ahead
and approve it? (May ~ Portland, OR)
A. Politically, you would think that he has no choice. But, in his mind, approving it would mean
another personal defeat. No state
involved with the pipeline has balked and Canada is threatening to sell the oil
to China, but the project is favored by the Republicans and Obama despises
them. As far as the jobs to be created
and the help to our oil problems go, Obama couldn’t care less about those
factors. I would say it’s a 50-50
proposition.
Q. I was reading that the police in Jordan, Minnesota are
actually moving into local schools… lock, stock and barrel! That sure makes a lot of sense to me for a
lot of reasons. They can save rent and
they are more dispersed throughout the community, while providing police
presence on campuses as well. Do you
think that’ll catch on? (Royal ~
Compton, CA)
A. Well, I would hope so.
The problem is, as you know, that all policemen in the country are going
to be laid off anyway, according to Obama.
But, given the outside chance that Obama could ever be wrong, I think
the move was well-thought-out and that communities throughout the U.S. would be
well-advised to consider it. There’s
another side benefit you didn’t consider; cops now have the ability to learn
their ABC’s.
Q. I understand there are a lot of government staffers who
are really ticked off at Obama over his wild and, misleading claims as to what
was going to happen with Sequestration.
Can you elaborate? (Jindal ~
Southfield, MI)
A. Picture yourself as being in charge of janitorial
maintenance at the Capitol. You know
fully well that your employees are not going to be taking any staff cuts or
layoffs; yet, your illustrious President made a point of suggesting that
Congressmen and Senators were going to be taking out their own garbage because
of looming layoffs of Capitol janitorial staff.
Now, all of your employees are coming to you, nervous as hell about what
Barry had to say. Wouldn’t you be angry? Besides, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist
to understand that no Congressman or Senator is ever going to take out his or
her own garbage; they would actually impeach Obama first.
