CONGRESS RENOUNCES ITS CONSTITUTIONAL ROLE

Congress has essentially stopped work on any and all serious legislation until after November’s election. We have a looming budget crisis, immigration issues… Well, the list of priority needs is endless.  The only thing they’ve accomplished lately is to require that the U.S. Olympic Team trash its Chinese manufactured uniforms and “buy American.”

COMMENTS:
What we’re actually witnessing—and have been for years now—is not gridlock, but the abdication of responsibility by Congress and the president for performing the most basic responsibilities of government.  Harry Reid’s Senate has flatly refused to even consider issuing its required annual budget for three consecutive years.  This is positively the worst Congress ever in American history; its dismal record is topped only by that of the so-called President of the United States.  They might just as well park their collective butts in the nearest bar and stay there.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. They’ve been saying for several weeks now that Syria’s Assad was about to be defeated.  Do you think it’ll ever happen?  (George ~ Prescott, AZ)
A. Well, here are the cold, hard facts.  Assad is being actively backed by Iran and the Soviet Union with some probable help from China.  Russia and China have stymied U.N. actions against Assad.  Should Assad now fall, all three countries would lose face.  I do not believe that Russia or Iran entered the fracas with any intention of losing face.  Therefore, should Assad actually falter, I foresee further support including possible troops and air cover coming from both of those countries.  With China and Russia holding veto power at the U.N., I don’t see any sanctioned involvement by any member country, so the question arises as to whether or not Obama is willing to risk inserting the U.S. into the picture before the November elections, particularly at a time when Iran is at the very threshold of having nuclear weapons. If things blow up, (play on words intended), we could be on a collision course with World War III; with Obama and the U.S. being seen as weak, I don’t see them backing down.  Besides, every great economic crisis of the world has been solved with… war.  Obama needs a war to save his skin in November.  To sum it up: things don’t look good, do they?

Q. The Democrats are claiming Ryan’s budget will doom Medicare.  Is that true?  (Jamie ~ Redding, CA)
A. That’s about as blatant a lie as they could possibly manufacture.  The fact is, ObamaCare is going to reduce Medicare spending yearly until Medicare is extinguished; it has to do that or its actual costs will be so high that even the Democrats couldn’t stomach the financial costs.  Ryan’s plan would bring new life back into Medicare by keeping the current plan as is for those over 55 and changing the plan to allow for individual purchase of medical insurance from private companies using government money for the newcomers.  Another lie being spread is that his budget so reduces government spending overall that hundreds of thousands of employees will lose their jobs and essential government programs will cease to exist; under his plan, spending would continue to increase each year, but not by nearly as much as by Obama’s plan, which even the Democrats refuse to pass.

Q. I thought California was broke, but it’s been hiding stashed money?  (Bart ~ Reno, NV)
A. The California Parks Department stashed $54 million over 12 years while claiming poverty and asking for donations from cities, counties and individuals.  It hid that fact from the state budget folks and kept the accounting for it on yellow sticky pads.  Now that it has been discovered, they’ve fired a couple of people.  The $54 million will probably be used as a down-payment on Jerry Brown’s newly planned high-speed rail system that no one can find the money for.   This is akin to finding a piggy bank full of money and going out to buy a new car when you're $250,000 in debt and your house is in foreclosure.
