TENSIONS HEATING UP IN SOUTH CHINA SEA

A Chinese warship hailed the U.S. Guided Missile warship USS Cowpens in international waters of the South China Sea and ordered it to stop.  In ensuing actions, there was almost a collision between the two vessels.  The Cowpens was studying the new Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning at the time.  The Cowpens continued on its course and refused the order because it was operating in international waters.

COMMENTS:
China has suddenly become the big bully of the area.  The country has claimed total control and jurisdiction over the South China Sea and has laid claim to the Spratly Islands, a rich fishing grounds.  China appears willing to irritate U.S. noodles and cause conflict.  We are now engaged in frequent ‘‘war games,” the likes of which we haven’t seen since the end of the Cold War with the Soviets.  Please pass the soy sauce.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:

Q. There’s been a war memorial cross on Mt. Soledad in San Diego for as long as I can remember. A judge has just ordered it removed because it’s on government property.  When are Christians going to stand up for their rights?  (Maurice ~ National City, CA)
A. The Judge ruled it violates the clause in the Constitution against the government’s establishment of religion.  The actual clause is the First Amendment, which reads as follows: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. I have always felt that the Supreme Court, in interpreting this clause, had to stretch the imagination of the law.  The Congress did not make a law allowing the statue; that decision was made at a lower level.   The Congress did not establish a religion; Christianity was established over 2,000 years ago.  The Congress has never said that Christianity is the religion of the United States.  Indeed, we allow Judaism, Buddhism, Atheism, Hedonism… you name it, we allow any religion in this country.  That argument needs to be forcefully made by a good Constitutional lawyer.

Q. John Boehner lashed out against “conservative groups” who are criticizing the recent budget deal.  The groups say the deal does not contain government spending well enough.  What is your opinion?  (Larry ~ Jerome, AZ)
A. I have long suspected that Boehner is a closet Progressive; his recent statement convinces me.  When it comes to dealing with the Democrats, he talks loudly and carries a small stick.

Q. The press is ticked off because the White House is limiting access to the President and refusing to allow press photographers to take his picture.  Why is the White House doing this?  (Leonora ~ Denver, CO)
A. Because they are retrenching and regrouping.  They’re getting battered over ObamaCare, Benghazi, the N.S.A., the I.R.S. and presidential lies.  And they don’t want unflattering photos in the news or journalists prying around and digging up the truth.  They suffer from the Nixonian Disease, “The only good journalist is a dead journalist.”
