FOX BUSINESS is
reporting that South Carolina is on the verge of passing a law which would
prohibit health care exchanges in the state and provide tax breaks for those
who face fines for not signing up for ObamaCare. The legislation, the “South Carolina Freedom
of Health Care Protection Act,” passed the state’s House of Representatives by
a 65-34 vote and is slated to be heard by the state Senate in mid-January.
COMMENTS:
This would definitely be an in-your-face challenge to the
federal government and, if successful, sets up the probability that other
states would copy the legislation. There
is also a move afoot to call a Constitutional Convention of the states to take
up this and several other issues, including term limits and budgetary
constraints. This is a country that is
sick and tired of the feds sticking their big fat noses into our private,
personal business and running roughshod over our values unless, of course, you’re
a left-wing progressive socialist.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. How do you feel about Obama shaking hands with Raul
Castro at Mandela’s funeral? Is that a
signal we are moving closer to relations with Cuba? (Miller ~ Springdale, AR)
A. I don’t know that a simple handshake means anything; I
have from tome-to-time shaken hands with people I consider enemies. Because the United States is moving closer
and closer to Cuban-style communism, and has been for the last five years at
increasing speed, I would not be surprised to see a thawing in relations
between the two countries. I think Obama
would like to legally smoke a Cuban cigar.
Q. If Iran were to agree to quit enriching uranium, is there
anything in this fabulous treaty to prevent them from buying weapons-grade
uranium from Pakistan or North Korea?
(Myrtle ~ Dana Point, CA)
A. Not that I am aware of.
And, as the Iranians would say, there’s more than one way to skin a
goat.
Q. I can’t believe that the special Congressional Committee
actual agreed on a budget! Do you think
it’s a good one? (Leonard ~ Pomona, CA)
A. I haven’t read it and can’t really comment on it until I
do. And, it hasn’t passed both houses of
Congress yet, so it’s not a done deal. Anything
both the Democrats and Republicans agree upon has to be highly suspect at this
point. The odds of its being a good deal
are about as good as the odds that the ObamaCare problems will disappear.
