UGLY ECONOMIC NEWS GETS UGLIER

The stock market has just ended its worst quarter since the depths of the 2008 credit crisis.  Friday’s downward turn closed out a fifth month of losses while weak economic data in China sparked fears of a global economic slowdown; Morgan Stanley plummeted on concerns about its exposure to European banks.

COMMENTS:
This month has been an endless parade of bad economic news.  Anyone who spends anything on anything should have his head examined.  We have every prospect of a long and very cold winter.  Too bad we won’t have Solyndra’s solar panels to keep us warm.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. The White House is now flatly refusing to allow anyone to testify in the Solyndra case.  It looks to me like the President knew what he was doing, knew that Solyndra was in financial trouble, pushed approval of the $500 million loan and got a huge political contribution.  Why isn’t Congress starting impeachment proceedings?  They went after Nixon for less.  (Forest ~ Klamath Falls, OR)
A. Impeachment proceedings start in the House of Representatives.  If they draw up and pass articles of impeachment, then it goes to the Senate for trial.  What do you think the odds are of Harry Reid and Company finding Obama guilty of anything?

Q. If the country needs jobs and corporations are not hiring, and the corporations are sitting on piles of money, why doesn’t the government take over the corporations, hire people who are unemployed and use the corporate money to pay down our debt?  (Fred ~ South San Francisco, CA)
A. Brilliant.  Sieg heil!

Q. Is the United Nations good for anything at all?  (Melanie ~ Shasta City, CA)
A. It should be dismantled and the building should be turned into another Mosque to honor the 19 men who lost their lives flying into the World Trade Center.

TODAY’S QUOTE:
Humor has a way of bringing people together. It unites people. In fact, I'm rather serious when I suggest that someone should plant a few whoopee cushions in the United Nations. ~ Ron Dentinger
