Now that the Health Care Plan is back on the front burner at Congress, they seem willing to discuss allegations that both plans being considered, the House version and the Senator Max Baucus version, will adversely affect retired people and other seniors, particularly those on Medicare. The plans call for reducing Medicare spending substantially, ($500 billion to $800 billion depending on whose figures you use). President Obama denies that such cuts will have an adverse impact on the services provided, but those in the best position to know have already said that Medicare Advantage, where the insured can purchase additional insurance to cover more healthy problems and to fill dollar gaps in Medicare coverage, will cease to exist.
COMMENTS:
Hundreds of thousands of Americans have been paying into Medicare for decades with the expectation of coverage when they retire. Now, Obama and Congress both are seeking to cancel those expectations, even though Medicare is “a contract with Americans.” And, they are both beating around the bush hoping to hornswaggle voters into going for their new plan by telling them that the new plan won’t cost them anything when, in fact, economic mathematics don’t bear them out.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. I hear that Muammar al-Gaddafi is pitching a tent on some of Donald Trump’s property because no one else wants anything to do with him. Is Trump a Gaddafi supporter? (Penny – Las Vegas, NV)
A. No, he’s an athletic supporter.
Q. Why does Obama still insist on blaming everything on the Bush Administration? (T.J. – San Bernardino, CA)
A. Obama has never accepted the blame for anything. Have you ever heard him admit that he has a dumb health care plan? No, but he will call you a “political terrorist” for saying bad things about it.
Q. In your road journeys, have you noticed Americans getting back to traveling? (Juanita - Dixie, UT)
A. No. I see a lot of trucking, but still not as many cars. And, when you do see cars, they are predominantly from the state in which you are traveling, which means to me that even those who are traveling are staying closer to home. The fact that airline traffic is way down tends to confirm that.
