Businesses have already begun layoffs or cutbacks in hours
as the full-implementation of ObamaCare begins to kick in. Now, states are joining in as well. Virginia is issuing an order cutting back employee
hours to 29 hours per week because it cannot afford the $110 million in annual
insurance costs mandated by ObamaCare for employees working 30 or more hours a
week. A university in Ohio has placed
employees on notice they will be fired for working more than 29 hours a
week.
COMMENTS:
Although the hype is that defense contractors are cutting
back on employees due to the pending effects of sequestration, I believe that
the cuts are actually occurring due to ObamaCare costs; why would they start
layoffs until they know for certain that sequestration will occur? This means more people will be either
unemployed or underemployed. Let me
assure you… if your hours get cut to 29, the prospects of taking on a second
job with 7.9% unemployment are slim and none.
I predicted this effect before ObamaCare was passed, as did many
others. Now, it is coming to fruition and
the costs of paying unemployment compensation while obtaining declining payroll
tax revenues is going to push this country straight back into serious
recession and further into debt.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. I’m still having problems with your position on the use
of drones to kill Americans engaged in terrorist activities. If they’re engaged in terrorist activities,
wouldn’t you want them bumped off?
(Marlene ~ San Francisco, CA)
A. The answer is yes, of course. However, the guarantees of the Constitution are
clear in that the citizen cannot be deprived of his life without due legal
process. Obama has subverted that
guarantee; I say if you want to establish that the President has the authority to
order or authorize such killings, change the Constitution and I would support
that. The President has stretched,
twisted, changed and spun the Constitution on many occasions. The Constitution belongs to the people and
not to him alone. If you do not
understand that he is acting as a dictator and should be impeached for the
things he is doing, you need to study American civics and history, and world
history as well. Nixon was impeached for
a far lesser offense, as he should have been.
Q. What is your opinion of Karl Rove’s leading the charge to
ensure that primaries produce candidates who can win? (Amie ~ Boise, ID)
A. It’s not about winning; it’s about who can do the best job
for the country. The Republican
hierarchy has been picking candidates they “thought” could win. This is the reason I left the party; it’s the
members, the base of the party, who should be deciding who ends up running. The
party needs to communicate attributes and deficiencies of candidates in an
impartial manner; if the majority of party members vote for a candidate, it
seems to me the candidate is prima facie electable. And no, the terminology I just used doesn’t necessarily
mean that the candidate is clean-faced, either, but from what I’ve seen, if the
hierarchy insists on ignoring the wishes of the members they are more likely to
get candidates who are two-faced and continue to be unelectable.
Q. Jesse Jackson says that semi-automatic rifles can shoot
down airplanes and blow up trains. Where
does he get that idea? (Ernie ~ Reno,
NV)
A. He’s been watching too many Hollywood movies. A practiced shooter, however, could shoot a
hole into the middle of a quarter at 500 yards with a single shot. Some politicians say off-the-wall stupid things
just so they can get press coverage, and Jackson hasn’t been heard of very much
in the press since it was discovered that he had a hoard of mistresses, although he was preaching from the pulpit.
