The State of Arizona is looking for donations for building a fence along its border with Mexico. Gov. Jan Brewer recently signed a bill that sets the state on a course that begins with launching a website to raise money for the work, said state Sen. Steve Smith, the bill's sponsor. This is a project that the Federal government started and has since stopped.
COMMENTS:
It is a sad day in our country when our government will not step up and enforce its own laws. In this sense, we are no better than some third world country ruled by corrupt politicians.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. I sure as hell am glad that we nailed Osama, but this adulation has been going on for too long. You’d think he was a saint or something, with every news show on every channel talking about the bastard endlessly. Enough is enough. Can we have some other news, please? (Arthur ~ Los Angeles, CA)
A. I agree. There comes a point when you cross the line and start worshiping such a guy… building him up to more than what he really was. I don’t know about you, but I’ve actually reached the point where I’d rather watch reruns of the Royal Wedding.
Q. I was driving down Main Street in Burney and saw a sign about Mother’s Day Breakfast at the VFW Hall. So, the wife and I went in and it was an American Legion event and they put on a great big breakfast for $4.00 that included sausage, eggs, and pancakes. The ladies ate free and got a free rose. I felt like I was living in a real community with real people; they use the money for scholarships and other youth activities. Just wanted to comment. (Bill ~ Fall River Mills, CA)
A. Yes, good still thrives in the mountains of northern California.
Q. How can we really solve the energy crisis in this country? (Mandie ~ Washoe Valley, NV)
A. Renewables such as wind, solar, hydro and geothermal will help us bridge the gap to something bigger and better than fossil fuels. But, there is a limit to them. I do believe that there is a form of energy in this universe that we have not yet discovered; however, despite Obama’s repeated calls for alternative energy, he just participated in slashing… and I mean slashing…. the budget for the Department of Energy. Yes, we need to cut our spending drastically, but prudence also plays a role.
TODAY’S QUOTE:
“It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them.” ~ Mark Twain
