In San Francisco, the law says if you have a gun in your
house, it must either be in a locked box or have the trigger mechanism disabled
when you are not physically carrying it.
The law has been litigated and ended up at the door of the Supreme Court
which refused to hear it. This means
that residents are under a diminished ability to defend themselves in the
middle of the night. Justice Thomas called San Francisco’s law a “significant”
burden, detailing the story of one of the petitioners, an older woman who lives
alone and must “turn on the light, find [her] glasses, find the key to the
lockbox, insert the key in the lock and unlock the box … and then get [her] gun
before being in position to defend [herself].”
COMMENTS:
This is at the very heart of the gun issue. There’s another push in Congress right now to
enact a law requiring all gun owners to carry a government-issued liability
insurance policy or to face a $10,000 fine and/or possible jail time. In both instances, it’s a “you have every
legal right to own your gun, but…” I do not think the people of this country are
in any mood to hear more such oppressive tactics against our Constitutional rights
to self-protection when our government is trying to disarm police departments
and is allowing our national and community security to fall into such terrible
disarray.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. What’s this about our State Department changing our
Independence Day from July 4th to June 4th? (Eileen ~ Pasco, WA)
A. The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, decided it might
offend some Muslims if we had our Embassy 4th of July celebration in
the middle of Ramadan. This picture is
getting uglier and uglier by the day. I
halfway expect an I.S.I.S. flag to start flying on the same pole as the
American Flag at the White House any day now.
Q. Do you think Obama’s decision to send 450 more troops to
Iraq will have any impact on the battle against I.S.I.S.? (Jordan ~ Willits, CA)
A. I.S.I.S. is said to have up to 50,000 troops now. Sending 450 troops with their hands tied
behind their backs to train more Sunni troops, to whom we don’t want to send
any more weapons… well, to me that’s somewhat akin to pissing into the
wind.
Q. As it turns out, the cops who were at that particular
location where Freddie Gray was in Baltimore were under orders by the Baltimore
prosecutor to crack down on drug activity at that specific location on the
basis that it was a “high crime area.”
In other words, the cops had every right to arrest Freddie, whether he
showed a knife or not, because he was running from the cops in a “high crime
area.” Every day that goes by, it
becomes more and more evident that she’s incompetent and should be
removed. What do you think? (Whitney ~ Alturas, CA)
A. This is really a Baltimore issue, not ours. But, Mosby has by her actions stirred the
flames of racism and turned it into a national issue. Her actions border on or even cross the line
of, judicial propriety. She should be disbarred.
