ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION ATTACKED NEAR BORDER

In April of 2013, unidentified suspects attacked an underground electrical substation near San Jose, California and destroyed 17 transformers in a well-planned attack.  Last week, a 50,000 gallon tank used to hold backup fuel for generators was attacked near Nogales, Arizona.  More than 30,000 Arizona residents could have been stripped of all access to power for their homes and businesses for an unknown period of time, if the explosive device had knocked out their critical transformer substation.  Once again, it appears that the perpetrators knew a great deal about electrical substations.  An explosive device placed on the tank failed to ignite the diesel fuel contained therein.

COMMENTS:
Our electrical grid is very vulnerable and our government has known about the problem since right after 9/11 when it started to take stock of our national security weak points.  Yet, nothing has been done.  It may well be too late to do anything if well-coordinated attacks are taken against several major substations at once.  Our illustrious government may find itself without the necessary “juice” to fix the problem.  Obama and his cohorts have a history of ignoring problems until their backs, and our backs, are to the wall.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. What is your opinion on the U.S. siding with Iran against the Iraqi insurgents?  (Bo ~ Sparks, NV)
A. If you’re going to get into bed with snakes, you’re gonna get bit.

Q. What crimes were the Taliban five accused of?  (Lucy ~ Richmond, CA)
A. One of them was directly involved in preparations for the World Trade Center attack on 9/11.  One of them is known to have been behind the death of the first American soldier killed in Afghanistan.  Who knows what the others were charged with; it wasn’t throwing rocks in the kindergarten sandbox.

Q. How do you feel about Obama’s trip to a South Dakota reservation to sign executive orders giving Native Americans better education and help in economic development?  (Lame Elk ~ Browning, MT)
A. I have mixed emotions.  While I despise everything he is doing to tear this country apart, I am also very aware that the federal government has totally failed to live up to its responsibilities to assist Native American families and tribes in obtaining health treatment, education, social services and education.  I hope the assistance gets to the tribes and that Obama was not just blowing smoke signals.
