GIRL COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER BULLYING

Here’s another almost-teenage girl, this one from Polk County in Florida, who has committed suicide following bullying by two other girls on the Internet.  Rebecca Sedwick, 12, committed suicide over the weekend.  According to the arresting sheriff, one of the two girls arrested showed total disregard for life after posting a comment online about the girl's death. Sedwick was "terrorized" by as many as 15 girls who ganged up on her and picked on her for months through online message boards and texts, authorities said.

COMMENTS:
It appears to me that our society is one angry mess.  We’re angry at our government, at Obama, at ObamaCare, at the cost of living, at being cut back on hours or out of work… the list is endless about why people in America are angry right now.  There is dysfunction in family units and all of this adds up to teenage anger which vents itself in a variety of ways, some of them harmful and despicable.  Certainly the parents should bear some responsibility in all of this, but I think a great deal of the problem is the way in which our American society has evolved, particularly over the last five years.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. I hear relations between the U.S. and Japan are becoming frosty.  Why is that?  (Dawn ~ Cathedral City, CA)
A. The U.S. has always assured both South Korea and North Korea that we will stand by them in case of military conflict.  Japan, as you should know, cannot legally raise an army, navy or air force due to its agreements with us at the end of World War II.  Both countries see the U.S. as allowing North Korea to build a nuclear missile arsenal. That is a definite security threat to both of them.

Q. The guy raising all of the ruckus over the Washington Redskins name isn’t even an Indian?  (Burl ~ Iowa City, IA)
A.  How he got to be where he is, I’ll never know.   He’s the leader of the Oneida Tribe, but not a member.  He’s an Obama team player, that’s for sure.  His tribe rakes in millions of dollars in casino revenues, little of which he shares with tribal members.  The Grand Council of Chiefs of the Iroquois does not recognize him.  Now, I don’t know that he is not an Indian; I suspect he’s either a quarter of Old Crow or a gallon of Wild Turkey.

Q.  Do you think Boehner is on his way out as Speaker?  (Philip ~ Blaine, WA)
A. They should all be on their way out in November of 2014, in both Houses and regardless of party.  Will he lose the speakership now? No way.  That fight would further destroy a political party that is already deeply fragmented.  Nevertheless, I think they need him as a focal point.

I remember a great America where we made everything. There was a time when the only thing you got from Japan was a really bad cheap transistor radio that some aunt gave you for Christmas.” ~ Cher
