Launched on December 11, 1954, the first super-carrier USS
Forrestal is on the way to the scrapyard.
The ship had a crew of 3,500 and saw valiant action throughout the world.
COMMENTS:
She did a great service to this country and in the cause of
freedom. Being almost 60 years old, the
ship had become an albatross hanging around the Navy’s neck. No one wanted to buy her and turn her into a
museum or even a giant arcade game. We
still have 85 or so B-52 jet bombers which have been around since about 1954;
don’t you wonder when their wings are going to fall off?
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. The White House is going to allow the resumption of tours
on November 5th. I thought
the Sequester dried up all of their operating funds. (Chloe ~ Gardnerville, NV)
A. According to Obama, it did. In case
you hadn’t noticed, they are now operating on smoke, mirrors and hot air at the White House.
Q. Do you look upon the Republicans as having “caved” during
this last budget battle? (Benito ~ Santa
Fe, NM)
A. What else could you call it? Frankly, I was surprised it ended up in a
government shutdown, but I think that was engineered by Obama. When you look at their history since 2009,
when has the Republican Party NOT caved in?
Q. The unemployment rate just dropped to 7.2%. That number, I suspect, is another Administration
lie? Just what is the actual percentage
of people who should be working that are not working? (Kristina ~ Cottonwood, AZ)
A. Wow, you’re really getting technical here, aren’t
you? There are 245 million able-bodied
men, women and teens who would love to have a job. More than 90.5 million of them are
unemployed. By MY calculations, that’s an astonishing 36.7% of real unemployment.
TODAY’S QUOTE:
“Today's misery is real
unemployment, home foreclosures and bankruptcies. This is the Obama Misery
Index and it’s at a record high. It’s going to take more than new rhetoric to
put Americans back to work – it’s going to take a new president.” ~ Mitt Romney
