VETERANS DAY 2012

Every year on November 11th and at 11:11 AM, veterans across the country meet to celebrate Veterans Day with a toast, usually of cognac.  Here’s a sample of what is said:

“To those who have served: I raise my glass in salute to you, and thank you for your service past.  To those who are serving now: I raise my glass again and salute your service now.  To those who are serving now in harm’s way, be it war, or peace keeping away from the comforts of home and the love of family: I raise my glass once again for your sacrifice, your courage, and your grit. I then bow my knees in prayer for your safety, for your comfort, and for a swift homecoming.

“To those who have died: I stand in silent salute to thank you for your ultimate sacrifice, never forgotten, never taken for granted, your gift to past present and future generations of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

“To all solders who have served honorably, I salute you.”

COMMENTS:
And as a former member of the U.S. Air Force, I say: “It was my pleasure as an American to serve, because I believe in God and my country.”

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Do you think Congress will get to the bottom of the Benghazi story?  (Marcel ~ Boise, ID)
A. No.  I think this will all be a nice, flashy dog and pony show.

Q. If you keep tax rates the same as they are, but get rid of deductions, isn’t that effectively the same as a tax increase?  (Laurel ~ Rock Springs, WY)
A. Yes.  The net effect is the same because more money comes out of your pocket.  This fancy jumbo talk is all just smoke and mirrors, but the American public will buy it.  Right now, they’ll buy anything.

Q. What do you think about the Petraeus resignation?  (The Colonel ~ Tacoma, WA)
A. The minute he unzipped his pants, his fate was sealed.  Obviously, he is a far more honorable man than Bill Clinton.  He made a mistake, and he did the honorable thing; he is a true American, far unlike the people who just sold this country down the river. Now, as to the question, "Was this some conspiracy?" I answer, if Petraeus was blackmailed into saying Benghazi was the result of the video and not terrorism, the threat of revealing his secret affair to his wife and family has now been mitigated.  So, why wouldn't he testify?  Yet, there is that nagging question: Others of less stature have survived the infidelity issue, so why would a great American resign just a few days after the election and in the face of having to testify before Congress?

TODAY’S QUOTE:
This quote was translated into English from an article appearing in the Czech Republic as published in the Prager Zeitung of 28 April 2011.
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the presidency.  It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.  The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.  Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.  The Republic can survive a Barack Obama.  It is less likely to survive a multitude of Idiots such as those who made him their president."
