The biographer with whom General David Petraeus evidently
had an affair is Paula Broadwell, a 38-year-old West Point graduate. Another “close friend” of Petraeus is Jill
Kelley, who purportedly received threatening emails from Broadwell which led to
an FBI Investigation after being reported by a male whistleblower. Two Congressional offices were made aware of
the Broadwell emails and Petraeus decided to resign before the story
broke.
COMMENTS:
I don’t think we’ve heard the end of the sordid
details. Nevertheless, the fact remains
that Petraeus is not now scheduled to testify during closed-door Congressional hearings
into the Benghazi massacre. Rumor has it
that Defense Secretary John Panetta was not made aware of the fact that the
attack was Al Qaeda terrorism as soon as other government officials were
notified. In fact, the story goes that
Panetta was not even told of the attack at all for some 40 minutes after other
senior government officials. Finally,
what is emerging as of yesterday is that we had a plane ready to go into
Benghazi but did not do so because the Libyans would not give permission. If that is the case, someone’s head in
Washington needs to roll and my guess is that the party who decided against
going in anyway resides at the White House.
I do not believe that Petraeus’ affair(s) had anything to do with
this.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. With General Petraeus having resigned and with Hillary
being “unavailable,” how can they get the facts and to the bottom of the
Benghazi story? (Travis ~ Clovis, CA)
A. As I said yesterday, I think the Congressional
investigation will be a big, flashy dog and pony show. You probably have heard that the
Congressional hearings will be closed on the basis of national security, so I
don’t expect anything to come of it in the long run; it will be a complete
whitewash, just like Fast & Furious.
As an American and as a former member of the military, this all makes me
sick to my stomach. The media should be all over this story like glue; that's their job.
Q. What is your opinion on the handling of the Sandy
disaster in the northeast? I know you
have made several sarcastic remarks about it.
(Chelsea ~ San Luis Obispo, CA)
A. FEMA is another big, bungling bureaucratic agency that
just sucks up taxpayer money in administrative expenses and delivers nothing at
the street level. Janet Napolitano and
DHS, its oversight department, have proven themselves many times to be incompetent
beyond words. Now and on the bright
side, FEMA will again have the opportunity to try and pawn off some more of its
mobile living units that are filled with formaldehyde to the Native Americans
and Janet may resign and become the next Attorney General to take Holder’s
spot. Isn’t that all just grand?
Q. Now that Obama has been confirmed as the Supreme Ruler, I
see the Republicans are caving in on amnesty for illegals. What’s their thinking? (Raul ~ Omaha, NE)
A. The reasoning is that Hispanics predominantly voted
Democrat. Never mind that legal Hispanics
are against amnesty for illegals, and never mind that illegals ended up
voting. Those two factors don’t matter;
the Republicans are grasping at straws as their shoddy ship sinks and they're
acting like tormented bulls in a china closet.
What about all of the thousands of people wanting to get here the legal
way… what are we going to do for them?
And don’t tell me that this will be a one-time deal, either; that’s what
Reagan said. Ultimately, why should I have to
pay for it?
