OBAMA LOOKS TO EXPAND GOVERNMENT

Regardless of the economic problems facing the country, President Obama is determined to expand the role of government no matter what the cost might be.  The President is set to expand government insured mortgages, combine several departments into the Department of Commerce with expanded authorities, and to start a new department focused on jobs, among other things.

COMMENTS:
These actions would take billions of more dollars.  They ignore the proposition that jobs creation and economic stability is best brought about through a robust business climate; indeed, Obama’s Administration plans more Federal regulations on an already overburdened business sector.  These ideas fly in the face of the fact that we are in deep financial problems in the country and are totally against the desires of most Americans who want a streamlined, lean government machine with more power returned to the states.  Yesterday, Obama was busy blaming a Congress that has only a 10% approval rating because it does everything Obama wants.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Don’t you think that the wealthy in this country should pay more in taxes?  (Paul ~ Dunsmuir, CA)
A. The GOP argues that this would discourage investment in America and thereby discourage hiring.  That is a fallacious argument.  The rich were at one time taxed at a higher rate and we had tremendous growth in business in this country.  There are a ton of loopholes that need to be plugged.  I believe that there should be a higher tax rate on corporate and personal incomes of $1,000,000 or more with a tax credit given for reinvestment in American business and hiring.  I also believe there should be a “re-import tax” on goods that are shipped out of the country for manufacturing and processing and then shipped back into the country for sale.  That’s a short-term fix.  What we really need is a totally new tax system and we need to get rid of a litany of repressive business laws.

Q. Rick Perry is surely grabbing the interest of the Republican Party, but you have been less than lukewarm about him.  Why?  (Mona ~ Carpenteria, CA)
A. He spent almost all of his years in politics as a staunch Democrat.  Shades of John McCain?  Don’t you remember him being out there on the stump campaigning for Al Gore?  I don’t trust him as far as I can throw Barack Obama.

Q. UFO’s have been spotted over virtually every locale in the world.  How about over Burney?  (Tamara ~ Susanville, CA)
A. Not to my knowledge, although there have been reports of alien beings hanging out at the bowling alley bar.
