Let’s do the math. 1,200 troops… “Up to” is an important hedge. It could be one, it could be 20, but it will not be over 1,200. Taking 1,200 working eight-hour shifts with no days off, that’s 400 per shift. The border is 1,969 miles long, according to Wikipedia. That’s roughly one guardsman to every five miles, assuming they are not watching porn with their friends at the SEC or EPA. (Sorry to my friends in the Guard, but I had to take the shot. After all, Obama and his buddies have been intimating for days now that the Arizona cops don’t have brains enough to administer the new immigration law in that state). Frankly, we might as well send just one additional guardsman because one per five miles is somewhat equivalent to siphoning off 2,000 gallons of oil from the 100,000 gallon per day Gulf oil leak. A. George W. did, but he sold his interest in the “Bush League” team in 1998 so he could run for the Presidency. I guess they’ll all have to saddle up and head back to patrolling the border and cleaning the beaches.
