DAMN THE TORPEDOES: FULL STEAM AHEAD

SPECIAL POST

Before taking off for the Labor Day Weekend, I decided to comment on how things stand in this country regarding the Middle East as of Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM PDT.

We all know that we have a narcissistic President who believes he is the Omnipotent One.  So, in his mind, when he said that when or if Assad crossed his “red line” and used chemical weapons against rebels in Syria there would be hell to pay, he falsely envisioned that his threat would leave Assad shaking in his boots and that chemical weapons would in fact not be used.  Unfortunately, Assad and his pal Putin had already written Obama off as being a weenie.

Inevitably, chemical weapons were used.  In the days since that discovery, things have evolved to a timid France offering support, Germany and Britain giving the cold shoulder, and Congress demanding that Obama call them back into session to decide whether or not to act.  Obama has been in hiding.  He put Secretary of State Kerry out in front and Kerry has been speaking with leaders of Congress who seem unwilling to give their nod until a measure is presented and voted on.  Yesterday, former President Jimmy Carter enjoined that any military action against Syria without Congressional approval would be unconstitutional and impeachable.

Although American sentiment seems to be against any action in Syria, the Obama team is pressing ahead.  Our warships are in the Mediterranean.  On the other hand, Egyptian rebels have threatened to close the Suez Canal if we act, Syria and Iran have threatened to bomb Israel if we act, and Russian warships are now making their way to the scene.  Both Egypt and Libya are perilously close to sinking into anarchy.

The Middle East is more of a tinderbox than I can recall in my lifetime.  And Obama wants to enter the scene with a lit matchstick?  The odds are high that he will act over the weekend and without Congressional approval.  I originally said that Congress should give that approval, if asked, but the moment for that has passed.  To me, the question now is, “If Obama orders military action without Congressional approval, will the Pentagon comply or will they cite his lack of such approval in refusing to act?

Hopefully, I’ll be back with a post on Tuesday and no action against Syria will have taken place, but I won’t bet on it.

BRITS SAY “NO” TO SYRIAN RETALIATION

The British Parliament yesterday voted not to allow British troops to participate on an attack on Syria in retaliation for its use of chemical weapons last week.

COMMENTS:
That wise decision leaves Obama internationally embarrassed and domestically without support as well.  What this portends is anyone’s guess, but I think it clearly defines Obama as a “lame duck” President.  His predicament is that he will face international loss of face whether he proceeds with an attack or not.  And then there’s that threat of his to take action if Syria used chemical weapons; what if he doesn't?  I halfway expect the White House to come out with the only explanation: it IS possible that Assad himself did not order the use of those chemical weapons.  “Therefore, I have decided to take no action at this time.”  In fact, that may well be the spin by the time this post hits print.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. What is your opinion on the indefinite probation sentence given to the three blacks who beat up the white kid on that Florida school bus?  (Lucas, Palo Cedro, CA)
A. Now, this is not a sarcastic or facetious response.  I do believe that this was a racially motivated crime; I can just hear those three talking about getting even with “his white ass.”  Granted, the probation includes multiple conditions including community service, random drug tests and electronic monitoring, for as long as 60 days. In addition, the teens must take anger management classes, comply with mandatory curfews and stay away from the victim.  I believe the victim could have lost his life.  For that reason, I also believe there should have been some time served in a juvenile hall custody for a minimum of six months, plus the above.  They got off far easier than most kids would in most jurisdictions.  This is basically not a wake-up call, but just a slap on the wrist.

Q. I think most Americans have recently been labeled as “extremists” by the Pentagon.  They even labeled our founding fathers as extremists for being disloyal to Britain.  In the past, our government has labeled military and former military people, tea party members, Republicans and religious people as being “extremists” that have to be watched.  What is your response?  (Lori ~ Broomfield, CO)
A. That is their “enemies list.”  That is why the N.S.A. monitors our phone calls and emails.  That’s why the I.R.S. has been targeting conservative groups and that is why the Department of Justice went after the Associated Press and Fox News.  They are paranoid, and they should be; they are not Americans, but anti-Americans and they need to be suspicious of everything we Americans are doing.  We, on the other hand, need to remain steadfast in our purpose, to restore America’s democracy.

Q. Why wasn’t America’s only black Senator, Tim Scott, invited to participate in the Martin Luther King observance?  (Cody ~ Kemmerer, WY)
A. Because he’s a Republican.

GOVERNMENT FUNDING PALESTINIAN HOME LOANS ON WEST BANK

The Federal Government, under the guise of the federal Overseas Private Investment Corporation, is directly funding $313 in home loans to Palestinians living on the West Bank, and is also providing $110 million in loan guarantees.

COMMENTS:
That’s one of the many reasons why Obama wants the debt ceiling raised.  What do YOU think?

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Given the fact that we are going to go into Syria, like it or not, what kind of attack would you recommend?  (Neil ~ Benicia, CA)
A. One nuclear weapon of sufficient size to obliterate Damascus.  Seriously, if you are going to go to war, plan to win it convincingly; otherwise, keep your nose clean.  You have Iran and Syria both threatening to bomb Tel Aviv if we do anything, so why take that risk?  Either nuke them or back off.

Q. There’s a new law coming in California that will allow nurses and mid-wives to conduct abortions.  What do you think about that?  (Lattie ~ El Centro, CA)
A. And let’s really go liberal and allow abortions up to the fourth week after birth.  Any doctor who refuses to perform an abortion for any reason whatsoever should have his license revoked.  And while we’re at it, let’s give the rapist full and equal say so over the upbringing of the child.  ENOUGH ALREADY!

Q. ObamaCare keeps taking blows.  Now I hear a Federal Court has ruled against it?  Can you elaborate?  (Bob ~ Placerville, CA)
A. Two brothers of different denominations sued over the ObamaCare requirement that they buy policies for their employees that cover abortion inducing pharmaceuticals, sterilization, and related counseling and education as part of employer sponsored health care plans. Federal Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia issued an injunction that prevents enforcement of the requirement until the case reaches its final settlement.

BOEHNER TO REPS: DON’T DARE DEFUND OBAMACARE; TEA PARTY RESPONSE: “UP YOURS”

NATIONAL REVIEW is reporting that that John Boehner is basically telling Republican Congressman that they had better not even think about defunding ObamaCare.  'Our intent is to move quickly on a short-term continuing resolution [CR] that keeps the government running...”  In the meantime, the Tea Parties are joining together to tell Congress they had better damned well defund ObamaCare, or else.

COMMENTS:
There are also reports that 163 House Members have signed a letter demanding a Special Committee investigation of the Benghazi Massacre and that Boehner has refused to let it see the light of day.  In any event, the battle for control of the Republican Party is being joined, as far as I can see it.  Look for a whole lot of screaming and yelling and esteemed members of Congress making jackasses out of themselves again.  In the meantime, I say let’s stir up some of our own angst and bombard those guys on the Hill with faxes, emails, letters, phone calls…. PLEASE… Get out at least one missile launched off to members of your Congressional delegation every day until the vote comes down.  They need to hear from us.  Let’s drown them out and, while we’re at it, let them know they need to replace Boehner.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. President Obama is delaying the Keystone Pipeline again.  With the danger of a regional war in the Middle East, what in God’s name is his energy policy, anyway?  (Dale ~ Citrus Heights, CA)
A. He told us his energy policy before he was elected: he wants to see gasoline prices up to at least $6.00 per gallon before he leaves office.

Q. Obama is saying there is no room for negotiation on the debt ceiling; he wants his money and he wants it now.  Do you think there will be a shutdown of government over ObamaCare funding?  (Thad ~ Fallon, NV)
A. Yes.  The real cause will be a struggle for power within the Republican Party, the “Old Guard” vs. the new guys.  Someone in this country has to have the courage to stand up to this two-bit Chicago Kenyan thug.  And he, on the other hand, wants to “get even” over Sequestration.  How it hurts the American public, however, is of no one’s concern.  Maybe this will be the spark that finally ticks the country off.

Q. What’s the latest in Washington on the gun control front?  (Adriana ~ Park City, UT)
A. There’s a bill, HB3018, in the House of Representatives that would put a Federal Tax of 20% on handguns and 50% on all ammunition sales.  It’s obvious that this is an effort to price shooting out of the reach of a lot of people, criminals not included.  We’ve got a lot of fighting to do ahead of us, and we need to start by getting these idiots out of office in 2014.

ORDERS FOR DURABLE GOODS PLUMMET

A key indicator of economic health, orders for durable goods, plummeted in July by over 7%.  It’s the deepest drop in almost a year.  Businesses are cutting back on purchases of computers and other durable goods.

COMMENTS:
And the market is down below 15,000 again.  And unemployment figures have gone south.  And so on.  The economy continues to be very fragile, and along comes ObamaCare, just a month away.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. This really disturbs me.  There is an atheist group in Coos Bay, Oregon which is demanding the removal of a cross honoring Vietnam Veterans.  Over the weekend, someone planted an I.E.D. [Improvised Explosive Devise] there.  Are we going to have these godless creatures running around bombing all of our crosses now?  (Debra ~ Riverside, CA)
A. This country is being torn apart from all directions.  Anybody who builds or uses an I.E.D. needs to be tried for terrorism.  We Americans are going to have to become more vigilant about our surroundings and who is in them and doing what.

Q. 54% of Colorado residents are against the state’s new gun control laws.  Will they get repealed?  (Lotus ~ Rawlins, WY)
A.  Virtually every sheriff and Deputy in Colorado is strongly opposed to the laws.  Two state politicians are under recall proceedings.  The laws amount to an all-out attack on the Second Amendment.  We can only hope they get repealed, but the current governor, John Hickenlooper, is firmly in favor of them and likely to veto any repeal attempt.

Q. How do you size up the internal Republican bickering over ObamaCare and defunding?  (Vance ~ Henderson, NV)
A. The struggle will evolve into a contest between the “Old Guard” and the “Upstarts” for control of the Republican Party.  By November of 2013, we should know which way the party will head going into the 2014 elections.
