TAX PREPARERS FACING TOUGHER SCRUTINY

The I.R.S. says it is going to require people who prepare tax returns for others to pass tests and register with the government. The I.R.S. says that it believes that there are those out there who do not know what they are doing and who are giving bad advice and completing bad returns. Eventually, tax preparers will be required to complete annual training and will be subject to penalties for unethical conduct.

COMMENTS:
Okay, guys. Aunt Millie is 89, blind and in a convalescent home and needs to file a tax return, and her nephew John has been doing that for her during the last five years. Now, you are going to make him register and pass a test? Is this one of Mr. Geithner’s brilliant ideas? Are you Obama guys all on drugs, or what?

TODAY’S QUERIES &ANSWERS:
Q. When there was the big uproar about all of the ugly back room deals made by Senators leading into the Christmas Eve vote to shove health care up our hind ends, some of the Senators fluffed it off by saying, “That’s how the system works.” How do you feel about that? (Marlin ~ Shreveport, LA)
A. That’s a lame excuse for unethical and un-American activities. That’s why we need to show them how OUR system works by voting them all out in November….all of them, both Republican and Democrat.

Q. I hear that the Justice Department is working on making some kind of a deal with the Christmas airline terrorist? (Wayne ~ Portsmouth, NH)
A. Yes. They are going to offer him a reduced sentence or some kind of immunity in exchange for revealing information about Al Queda. God forbid they get caught water boarding.

Q. I hear that the City Manager in Redding is refusing to take his pay raise. Is he some kind of a nut? (Bernie ~ Palo Cedro, CA)
A. I admire him for doing the right thing. Maybe by doing that they can keep a secretary or some other needy person employed. It’s that kind of thinking that America used to be made of. Outside of that, he may be a nut, I don't know; never met the man.
