The Trump Administration is reviewing the controversial H1-B
Visa program which allows workers into the U.S. from foreign countries.
COMMENTS:
The program was designed to fill a technological gap;
Silicon Valley and similar manufacturers ostensibly couldn’t find enough geeks
here to fill their employment needs, so they asked to be able to import such
workers from overseas. One of their
pledges was that such workers would make as much, if not more, than their American
citizen counterparts. Not only is the average foreign worker paid
only 80% of median wages, but other industries have jumped on the H1-B Visa as
a way for them to hire cheaper labor.
This is another example of government run amok; the proper solution to
the problem should have been to create incentives for Americans to get the
education and training necessary to do these jobs. Instead, it created a program that was wide
open for abuse and displaced qualified Americans from jobs.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. What do you make of the Congressional race in
Georgia? (Everett ~ Redding, CA)
A. The Republicans are trying to stick their heads in the
sand and somehow pretend that it was a victory for them. Ossoff got 48% of the vote. There were some 18 candidates for the job and
there are now two. If you say 52% voted
against Ossoff, you must also accept that 80% of the people voted against
Handel, who got 20% of the vote. Just
playing the numbers game, Ossoff is the likely winner in June. Why? I
think it’s because the Republican Congress continues to be in disarray, that
they’re not supporting Trump’s agenda… and that the resulting chaos is damned
upsetting and disappointing to most of us.
Frankly, unless the Republicans get their act together, they will end up
on the outside looking in, come 2018.
Q. Well, you said you didn’t think FOX NEWS would let Bill
O’Reilly go, but they have. What do you
say now? (Corinne ~ Lake Geneva, WI)
A. He was probably connected with the Russians. The problem that occurred was that O’Reilly’s advertisers
were pulling their ads left and right after news continued to ooze out about
allegations of sexual misconduct.
O’Reilly always struck me as being somewhat pious, overbearing and rude
to guests on his show, but he was largely responsible for the network’s
success. In the more recent years, FOX
has been moving from the right to the left and I think that played into the
ultimate decision to can him. What do I
say? Bye, bye now.
Q. Why do you think Trump has ordered two more aircraft
carriers to North Korea? Is he planning
military action? (Paulo ~ Tucson, AZ)
A. When you sit down at a poker game, you usually have money
in your wallet.
