The Associated Press is reporting that about a dozen times
in the last decade, sophisticated foreign hackers have gained enough remote
access to control the operations networks that keep the lights on, according to
top experts who spoke only on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive
nature of the subject matter.
COMMENTS:
We know that foreign hackers have gained access to American
computers used by major businesses and the government alike, causing massive
breaches of confidential information.
Computers control virtually everything these days: from your automobiles;
to the transmissions of natural gas, electricity and water; to commerce; to
emergency services… you name it. The
technology of information systems has exploded so fast that it has been
virtually impossible to design and implement security safeguards fast enough. We’re at danger, and we need to make it a
national priority to address this issue ASAP.
