A terrorist organization known as Boko Haram is rampaging through Nigeria, beheading men, raping women and killing Christians. “Boko Haram’s attacks on the people of Nigeria have become more vicious. Their wicked deeds are devastating men, women and children, Christians and Muslims. Everyone is a target for Boko Haram,” Rep. Frederica Wilson says. “Boko Haram has the potential to explode any day, like [the Islamic State]. Now we have a major international crisis to deal with in Iraq. The international community must not let this terror continue.”
COMMENTS:
The U.S. and the rest of the world are going to have to
stand together regardless of political differences and remove the scourge of
terrorism from the face of the earth. This
war cannot be won by drones, or rockets, or missiles or bombs; it’s going to
take gut-wrenching down-in-the-gutter hand-to-hand combat. If we are not ready to do that, we will
fail.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Here we have another huge data breach, this time at Home
Depot. I do a lot of shopping
there. How do I protect myself? (Lanny ~ Fremont, CA)
A. Well, at this point taking your merchandise back won’t
solve the problem. It is concerning to me that the hacking at Home Depot has been going on for several months without detection. I check my credit and
debit card transactions several times a week online. If I see anything suspicious, I investigate
immediately. And I reconcile my bank
accounts and credit card statements every month. Since virtually every online business
requires the credit verification number on the back of your card, I think you
are safe in that respect. If physical
merchants require identification, as they are supposed to do, you should also
be somewhat safe. Your credit card
number can still be used in the creation of fraudulent credit cards with phony
names and identifications, but that takes a lot of work and most crooks don’t
have the patience and time.
Q. What do you think Obama is going to say [tonight]? Minnie ~ Redding, CA)
A. An incessant blah, blah, blah interspersed with an
occasional “Republicans did it” and “Blame Bush,” followed by some vague
promise to do some vague thing, all couched with escape clauses and caveats… and
presuming, of course, that the teleprompters don’t malfunction.
Q. I understand the I.R.S. is now going after Breitbart.com because of its aggressive
reporting on the I.R.S. scandal. Isn’t
that against the law? (Iva ~ Sequim, WA)
A. Breitbart says the I.R.S. is asking for a lot of
irrelevant documents regarding its 2012 taxes. The
I.R.S. routinely audits businesses and is refusing to say whether or not this
audit is out of the ordinary. Just because
you criticize the White House and the I.R.S. and then get audited usually doesn’t
mean they are auditing you because of your criticisms. I mean, it could be a coincidence, right?
