Afghanistan is asking the U.S. for an emergency $537 million transfusion, saying it is broke. The special inspector general for Afghan reconstruction, John Sopko, said he believes the U.S. has built a government in Afghanistan that it can’t sustain. “We have predicted for a while that we have spent too much money, too fast and built an infrastructure that the Afghans cannot afford,” Sopko said. He also warned that without the bailout, the Afghan government will have a difficult time keeping terrorists out of Afghanistan.

The news we get under the Obama regime just keeps getting
worse and worse. I can’t even think of
anything funny to say about it.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. I know that it is totally against the law for an
employer, a lender, a real estate agent… on and on… to ask for or note an
applicant’s race on an application. But
I now hear that the feds are requiring gun shops to indicate race of the buyer
on all new applications. What gives? (Todd ~ Santa Fe, NM)
A. Form 4473 asks for both racial and ethnic
background. There is no reason in law or
law enforcement to ask for this intrusive information. The only far out reason would be for
statistical purposes, being able to say white buyers outnumber Black or Hispanic
buyers. But, there is more crime among
Blacks and Hispanics and they are therefore less likely to purchase a gun from
a licensed dealer. Since the requirement was added to the
forms in 2012 without fanfare, you can bet that something sinister is up; that’s
the way this Administration works. Maybe
they’ll go after gun shops for discrimination for selling more guns to whites
than blacks?
Q. I understand Biden has irked a whole bunch of people by
using the term “shylock.” Why is that
offensive? (Oren ~ Roy, UT)
A. You and I know the term as referring to a money lender
who charges exhorbitant rates of interest.
Evidently, the term originated in medieval times as a character in a
Shakespearean work, “The Merchant of Venice,” where Shylock, a Jew, demanded a
pound of flesh from those who defaulted on loans. Until I read it, I had no idea of the history
of the word and could not possibly assign any anti-Jewish sentiment to it. The next thing you know, it’s going to be politically
incorrect to refer to the President as being an imbecile.
Q. John Sensenbrenner wants to eliminate the ATF? (Reggie ~ Davenport, IA)
A. Yes. He says it
will cut 5,000 personnel and the duties can be transferred to the FBI and
DEA. My question is this: Who is going
to be in charge of running illegal guns from the U.S. to the Mexican drug cartels?
