IRAN SHOWDOWN NOT LOOMING

The worry that a failure by the “Super Committee” to cut spending by $1.2 trillion will mean a 50% reduction in defense spending, and that such a cut would enable Iran to proceed with its nuclear ambitions without fear of reprisal from us, can be dismissed.  Allen West and others have been suggested that the United States would be impotent against Iran if the cuts should occur.

COMMENTS:
The United States is already impotent against Iran.  However, I must say that our defense capabilities will not be hurt one bit with a 50% cut in the defense budget for about five years.  Then it will start to show.  The implication that cutting the budget today will result in a declining military tomorrow is simply not true.  I say that and I am a hawk when it comes to national defense, but we can cut the military budget by 25% on a permanent basis and not hurt our superiority.  We spend as much as the rest of the world combined right now.  As far as Iran goes, I think Israel can handle them quite well, and they will get Obama off the hook.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. I read yesterday in Newsmax that there are 40 million foreign-born immigrants in the U.S. right now, of which 12 million or more are illegals.  Unemployment is at 9%.  Why don’t we cut off immigration until we get our job situation under control?  (Leon ~ Susanville, CA)
A. If you limit immigration, only the illegals will continue to come here.  Obama will not stop the illegals from coming here; he will not enforce our immigration laws.  I understand what you are saying and agree with the premise.  But, we have a President who just doesn’t give a damn what the unemployment rate is regardless of what he says.

Q. For years they’ve said that fish oil is good for you.  Now, they are saying that is not true.  What is the real story?  (Myra ~ Half Moon Bay, CA)
A. Depending on who you are talking to, everything is bad for you.  All I can say on the subject is this: We all need water to survive. Fish swim in water.  Therefore, fish or fish products cannot be bad for you.  I qualify this scientific stance by saying that fish which swim through the underwater oil tar in the Gulf may not be good for you, but you can use their oil in the crankcase of your car.  If you think there’s something fishy in my logic, have a glass of water and chill out.

Q. If Obama were to launch a military attack against Iran, could he save his Presidency for another four years?   (Matt ~ Des Moines, IA )
A. Yes.
