The Justice Department is trying to prevent AT&T’s takeover of T-Mobile for $39 billion on the basis that the new company would raise prices, reduce competition, and provide consumers with fewer choices.
COMMENTS:
I know you are not going to believe this, but I agree. The country has allowed too many monopolistic
practices in recent decades and we are the ones paying the penalty for it. That’s why the oil companies are able to
stick it to us. Enough is enough. All we
need in this country is another GE.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Do you think there is danger of another Al Queda strike
on 9/11 this year, being it’s the 10th anniversary? (Esteban ~ Ukiah, CA)
A. Yes, absolutely.
Of course, if they want to do maximum damage to the U.S., they will
ensure Obama’s reelection. Seriously,
the FBI and Homeland Security are entering high alert status. Keep your eyes and ears open.
Q. What’s the flap over Obama’s speech? I didn’t catch the whole story. (Eve ~ Bella
Vista, CA)
A. For weeks, months maybe, the Republicans have planned a
debate among Presidential candidates for Wednesday the 7th. Along comes Obama who, before going on
vacation announces that he has “a plan” to solve our problems, but that he won’t
tell us what it is until he finishes his vacation, and now he settles on the
exact same time and date for his speech.
Hence the big uproar which, in the final analysis, doesn’t make any
sense because we all know that none of us are listening to a word he says
anymore, anyway. So, we’d all be tuned
into the debates and he’d be speaking to himself. Here the nation is in crisis and this jerk is
still playing cheap political games.
Q. Does Venus Williams have aids? She just abruptly dropped
out of the second round of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships. (Shara ~ Sacramento, CA)
A. She has an autoimmune disease called Sjögren's
syndrome, which affects energy level and causes fatigue and joint pain. Let’s give her a prayer, but I don’t think it
goes away.
TODAY’S QUOTE: (What Barack might say again in his next
speech?)
“When we think of the major threats to our
national security, the first to come to mind are nuclear proliferation, rogue
states and global terrorism. But another kind of threat lurks beyond our
shores, one from nature, not humans - an avian flu pandemic.” Barack Obama
