CONGRESS TO RAISE DEBT CEILING TO $13.9 TRILLION?

The proposed increase is $1.8 trillion, from $12.1 trillion to $13.9 trillion. The deficit this year alone increased by $1.4 trillion.

COMMENTS:
I disagree. I don’t think $1.8 trillion as an increase is enough. If we’re increasing our borrowing by $1.4 trillion per year now, and with $700 billion per year or so in interest alone, $1.8 trillion won’t be enough to carry us through the whole year next year. Why don’t we just raise it now to $50 trillion so we can cover the increased spending by Congress and the interest as well for the next five years? I mean, if we can never pay it back anyway, what difference does it make? Hell, let’s go for $100 trillion…

A. There were two dozen… three dozen at the tops… marching up the street with a drum and they made the news, alright. Isn’t that amazing when tens of thousands at the Tea Party did NOT make the news? Is the media and press engineering public policy, or what?

Q. This is not a question, but hoping you can say something about it. Shelters for the homeless and food banks are really hurting this season. (Benjamin – Sacramento, CA)
A. Glad you mention it. Yes, it’s a double whammy. Unemployment is at 10%, foreclosures are at an unprecedented rate, and the need for such help is so much greater. Donations are down, need is up. If you have some extra clothing or food, please donate it to the shelter nearest you. Just be certain that you have paid the taxes on it before you give it away.

Q. What do you make of these American terrorists being caught in Pakistan? (Sidney – Albany, NY)
A. This is a cell of American-born and raised terrorists that was undetected until they went missing and turned up in Pakistan. This shows that our American intelligence is slipping and, frankly, that scares the hell out of me, especially when we have an Administration that can't add 2 + 2.
