U.S. Navy officials told a government watchdog the Littoral
Combat Ship (LCS) fleet is not suited for duty in the Pacific, according to a
Bloomberg report. The ship is overweight
and lacks the speed, range and electronic warfare capabilities required for
today’s operations in the Pacific and might be better suited for the Persian
Gulf. The Navy has two such ships,
purchased from different contractors, and is scheduled for 30 more.
COMMENTS:
Wouldn’t you think that with today’s computer hardware and
software, the Navy would have known of these design problems before the ships
were built? Don’t you suspect that they
used the same firm that designed the ObamaCare website? These ships are not cheap. More are already in the construction
pipeline. Somebody needs to get their collective
heads out of their rear-ends. On the
other hand, maybe the BLM can use them when they go back to Bundy’s ranch.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. So, the IRS targeted conservative groups and
organizations. Nevertheless, they planned to give IRS employees a substantial
bonus a few months ago, but held off after a nationwide uproar. Now, they’re saying the bonuses need to be
paid in order to improve morale that declined over the illegal targeting? Give me a break. (Xao ~ Los Angeles, CA)
A. The Internal Revenue Service’s new commissioner says that he will pay out millions of dollars in bonuses to agency employees,
reversing a decision his predecessor made to save money amid the sequester
budget cuts and other belt-tightening last year. The agency remains under fire for targeting
tea party groups, but Commissioner John Koskinen said the bonuses are needed to
retain and attract good employees in a time of cutbacks. In other
words, if you’re a government employee and your agency targets conservatives,
you’re going to get a bonus.
Q. I just read a report that the Supreme Court issued a
decision about a week ago that a New Mexico photographer has to take wedding
pictures of gay couples, even though it is against her religion. Is the Court now saying that the government
can interfere with our rights of religious expression? (Frank ~ Orem, UT)
A. That’s exactly what they are saying, and everybody knows
the U.S. government trumps even God. Elane
Photography co-owner Elaine Huguenin said taking the photos would violate her
religious beliefs and that she also has a right of artistic expression under
the First Amendment which allows her to choose what pictures to take, or
refrain from taking. Obviously, she’s
out of her tree, correct?
Q. Will Russia invade Ukraine? If so, what will the U.S. do about it? (Sal ~ Costa Mesa, CA)
A. In order: Yes and nothing. The invasion is written in the wind and has
been for months. Obama is going to let
Putin do anything he wants. Perhaps that
was what he meant back in 2012 before the election when he was overheard saying
that he couldn’t comply with Putin’s request, whatever is was, until after the
election, when he could do anything he wants.
