The legislation gives regulators the far-reaching ability and time to come up with new rules, requires scores of studies and, in some instances, depends on international agreements falling into place.

It also establishes a new layer of Washington bureaucracy, fails to stop actions such as those by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that led us into this mess, and lets Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd off the hook for their disastrous role in our national depression. Yes, depression…. And my prediction is that, within two weeks after the November election, the stock market will be under 7,000 and we’ll be back in deep trouble with no money left in the till.

DEMOCRATS SAY THEY WILL NOT LOSE IN 2010

In response to remarks over the weekend by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, several prominent Democrats have come forward to insist that they will not lose the House OR the Senate in 2010.

That braggadocio doesn’t really bother me. What does bother me is that, in the same breath, they go on to add, “And our goals and agendas will not change.” That scares the hell out of me, because they obviously have not learned squat. Up to this point, I’ve been of the opinion that I didn’t care whether or not Republicans win in 2010, we just need to get rid of incumbents. Granted, the Republicans lack leadership and solutions, but if the Democrats have not learned that we mean business, then I’m reluctantly going to have to say that we need to have a Republican Congress come November 3rd. We definitely don’t need more of the same as we’ve been getting.

GREATEST THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY: DEBT

President Obama, faced with the results of the creation of his runaway spending and with his back to the wall on the economy and rising national debt, recently named a “Debt Commission” to examine the crisis and to make recommendations. The two leaders of the commission, Republican Alan Simpson and Democrat Erskine Bowles, have told the National Governor’s Association that the situation is grim. "This debt is like a cancer," Bowles said in a sobering presentation; "It is truly going to destroy the country from within."

COMMENTS:

More and more voices, including the President’s own people, are raising the red flag of danger. When the commission was created, the prevailing reaction was that it would just be used as an excuse to raise taxes. Well, Barry, I’ve got news for you; if you have any thought of raising taxes before you start meaningful budget cuts, you may well be surprised. Everything you have done to our economy, Barry, has made it worse. May God be with your successor, whoever that might be, because he certainly will have a horrible mess to deal with in every respect.

Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney General now faced with a growing number of states vowing to mimic Arizona’s new immigration law, has vowed to continue suing Arizona again and again if he loses his current United States vs. Arizona lawsuit.

This is tantamount to overt oppression against the will of the people and state’s rights. We have nothing but a bunch of crooks, mobsters and demigods in Washington. We know what we must do in November; they must either be removed or so isolated and surrounded that they are impotent.

Holder now says that trying KSM in a military Court might mean he would not get the death penalty, even if he pleaded guilty, but that he could get the death penalty if tried in a civilian Court.

Wow, what double-talk is that? He might not get the death penalty if it’s a military trial and he might get the death penalty if it’s a civilian trial? Maybe that all has a bearing on why he dropped charges against those Black Panthers in Philadelphia? Maybe the grass he smokes is from Venezuela and not Columbia? OBAMA JUBULANT OVER GULF OIL NEWS

Federal officials announced late yesterday that a new, tighter fitting cap could contain the ongoing Gulf Oil disaster as early as Monday. The new cap is in the process of being lowered and fitted; crews using remote-controlled submarines plan to swap out the cap over the weekend, taking advantage of a window of good weather following weeks of delays caused by choppy seas.

COMMENTS:

I suppose Obama will grasp at anything to try and get his sinking poll numbers reversed. The fact is that, if the new cap works Obama had nothing to do with it. He has had extremely poor performance ratings over this debacle, proving that he is at the very least inept. While we are all hoping and praying that this new effort will succeed, we need to understand that containment efforts now underway should have occurred within a very short time after the oil rig sank. The fact that efforts did not really get underway until two weeks ago is beyond comprehension.

Yes, it’s been that long since Holder and Obama announced that the terrorist trials would be held in New York. Now, I guess the terrorists no longer exist, inasmuch as the subject never comes up anymore. So, we’ll drop this spot on the blog until further notice. 

27,000 GULF WELLS POSE DANGER

There are 27,000 abandoned oil and gas wells in the Gulf that could leak, according to several environmental groups. Federal inspectors and regulators don’t typically inspect the plugging process of offshore wells or come back to inspect them for leaks, although such wells located in surface areas have leaked in the past. Petroleum engineers say that even in properly sealed wells, the cement plugs can fail over the decades and the metal casing that lines the wells can rust.

COMMENTS:

Theoretically, they have been collecting fees from operators for the purpose of funding an inspection and regulation program. I’m sure the money is around, maybe hiding with our Social Security funds under a rock some place.

OIL DISASTER MAY SINK OBAMA PRESIDENCY

On day 79 of the disaster, oil and tar balls have touched every American shore in the Gulf. The President, with his back firmly up against the wall, has reluctantly allowed oil skimmers from other countries to come to our aid, including the giant “Whale” that is capable of skimming and separating oil from up to 21 million gallons a day.

COMMENTS:

It is testimony to the ability and intent of the Obama Administration that Obama denied such help until the political clamor got too hot to handle. Now, it is tropical storm season and the ability of the whale and 500 other smaller skimmers to do their job is in danger. The water temperature and other factors are likely to turn the Gulf into a cesspool of dead fish and marine life punctuated by tar balls for the next 40 years, while affecting the nation’s weather at the same time. The nation is well aware of the many crappy things that this administration has done, but this environmental disaster will long outlive Obama and may well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

REPUBLICANS FACE CRITICAL DECISION

The weekend gaffe of Michael Steele where he denigrated the Afghan war has perturbed stalwart Republicans who don’t want to dump the “racially correct” National Chairman but who also have been under fire for allowing Steele to continue after so many mistakes.

COMMENTS:

Steele has not proven to be a dynamo in his current position. The Republicans have been floundering ever since John McCain got the nomination, and it now appears to many Americans that they are simply an extension of the Democrat Party. While most Americans are infuriated at what Congress and the President have done to this country, they are not by any means enamored with the Republican lack of clear leadership during what they perceive to be a national crisis. The end result may well be that the Republicans who have been salivating at the prospects of regaining control of the House and maybe the Senate will be sorely disappointed in November.

If the Republican Party wants to make its dreams come true, it needs to get rid of Steele and get strong leadership and a firm sense of national direction yesterday.

Fox News has been reporting, and various Senators have confirmed, that President Obama is planning to issue an Executive Order to grant illegal aliens amnesty. Obama has ordered White House Aides to examine the legal ramifications of such a move. The Senate, reacting to this news, challenged the White House to explain its actions and the White House has denied the rumors. The concern is that DHS, in a bid to bypass Congress, would extend what is known as deferred action or parole -- actions usually taken on a case-by-case basis -- to millions of illegal immigrants at once.

If they proceed with this, Obama MUST be impeached. He is usurping the power and the will of the people and of the Congress of the United States.

PETRAEUS TAKES OVER...ALMOST

General David Petraeus was names as the new man in charge of the war in Afghanistan yesterday by President Obama to take over from General McChrystal. Petraeus must be confirmed by Congress.

COMMENTS:

The confirmation should be quick, but the end of the war there won’t. You can’t fight any war and win if your hands are tied behind your back.

A. I’ve not been pushing for the Republicans because I think their National Committee is in a shambles and they don't have a clear, positive message. I had hopes they would pull their act together and they may yet, but I’m not holding my breath. Their continued requests for donations go straight from my mailbox to my trash bin. On the other hand, I’m not overly enthralled with the Dems, either. I do see that they are losing a lot of incumbents, and that’s good. We have another couple of weeks of primaries to go after which, I’m still inclined to say… look at the candidates remaining and pick the one with the least experience in politics and who hasn’t ever been in Washington. If that doesn’t make up your mind, THEN choose the Republican.

Q. For the first time, Obama made a decision; he canned McChrystal. Maybe he’s changing after all? (Carly ~ Scranton, PA)
A. Not at all. This is how it happened: McChrystal walked in to the Oval Office and said, “Mr. President, I have my resignation in hand.” Obama said, “I’ll take it,” and that was that. Does that make Obama a better leader?

Q. Here we go again with the damned oil well. Now that temporary cap is off again. These idiots are like loons; can’t they do anything right? (Susan ~ Atascadero, CA)
A. Imagine yourself on the edge of the Grand Canyon on a windy day, holding a peg on the end of a string and trying to maneuver it into a hole at the bottom.Until you learn how to do that, you probably shouldn't be drilling oil a mile down in the Gulf.

OBAMA HOUSING PROGRAM IN CRISIS MODE

More than a third of the 1.24 million borrowers who have enrolled in the $75 billion mortgage modification program have dropped out. That number exceeds the number of people who managed to have their loan payments reduced to help them keep their homes. 436,000 have dropped out because the Obama administration initially pressured banks to sign up borrowers without insisting first on proof of their income; when banks later moved to collect the information; many troubled homeowners were disqualified or dropped out. Many borrowers complained that the banks had lost their documents while the industry said borrowers weren't sending back the necessary paperwork.

COMMENTS:

So, now we have spent billions of dollars trying to keep people in their homes and we are ending up with the homes in foreclosure anyway. Great move, Obama. Don’t say I never warned you.

WHITE HOUSE IN MELT-DOWN MODE?

The immigration battle is off to a rough start with Holder filing suit against the state of Arizona for trying to deal with a horrendous immigration and crime problem; legal scholars are weighing in against the lawsuit and the populace is lining up against the Administration’s less-than-adequate handling of the overall problem. Obama is obviously miffed that Governor Brewer had the impudent audacity to put his feet to the fire over the issue.  The word is out that the government has bailed out Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac to the tune of $389 billion and that they have repossessed and now own about 500,000 houses; the math? That works out to about $778,000 per house. Now comes the admission that up to 100,000 barrels of oil are leaking in the gulf per day and Obama has yet to even consider accepting help from foreign countries. Every day that goes by, the figures seem to increase. The number of deaths in Iraq is surging; Ahmadinejad has announced he’s going to build more nuclear plants and has denied IAEA inspectors admission to Iran. Unemployment claims went up and the economic news is not getting better, no matter what Joe says.

COMMENTS:

I’m sure I missed something, there’s so much. But the President has taken full charge of the situations; he played golf over the weekend and he’s out trying to sell his health care calamity to the American public. Please don’t pass the gray poop on; hand me a good, stiff drink.

OBAMA CAUGHT IN CROW-EATING HEALTH CARE VISE

President Barack Hussein Obama has taken to the air waves to blame the Republicans for a looming Medicare crisis. The problem is that medical payments to physicians and other providers are scheduled to take a big cut according to a formula devised years ago. Prior scheduled cuts have not been enforced by either Republicans or Democrats and the medical industry has been continuing to get paid their full amount. Now, the Republicans are unwilling to prevent the scheduled 21% cut this year and Obama is having a snit fit. But, there’s more to the story.

COMMENTS:

Back when Obama and Rambo were threatening and coercing Members of Congress into passing a health care bill that no one wanted, they used the scheduled cut to pad the cost of the health care plan in their favor. Now, Obama wants to coerce Congress into another prevention of the cut in order to maintain current medical payment levels that the profession is quite justifiably entitled to. And, in order to get the AMA to back his plan, he made a back-room guarantee to them that the scheduled cuts would not take place. The Republicans know these facts and are bound and determined to make Obama admit to the country that he screwed us. Oh what tangled webs we weave when at first we practice to deceive.

A. Their last elections were somewhat indecisive. What you really need to understand is that the various factions in Iraq have been fighting each other since time immemorial. Hussein was able to control the problem with his iron-fisted dictatorship which would not put up with any bull. The U.S. chose to occupy Iraq after it went in to topple Hussein and that, frankly, was a mistake; it put us into a no win situation. In my opinion, we should have stayed only long enough for Iraq to establish a new government and we should then have withdrawn and let the chips fall where they may. That part of the world has never known peace; they live by the sword and they die by the sword and no American, including the messiah, will ever change that fact.

Q. What’s this new tactic about Van der Sloot being mentally ill? (Kerry ~ San Jose, CA)
A. What is coming out, I think, is that his mother at least, and maybe his father when he was alive, let this scum do whatever he wanted. Whenever he got into trouble, they pulled strings and bailed him out of it. Now, the mother is doing everything she can to get this psychopath off again. I am inclined to think that, in some ways, she’s just as guilty for these deaths as he is and that she's the real down-to-earth nut case.

Q. I understand that Obama smokes marijuana in the White House. How can he get away with that? (Fran ~ Topeka, KS)
A. I do not know that he does, or does not smoke marijuana in the White House. He’s admitted to smoking pot in the past and is certainly arrogant enough to do so and, if he does, RHIP. In other words, he feels that as long as he is President he can do anything he wants, legal or illegal, and there’s not a damned thing you can do about it.  So there.
