I.R.S. LOSES RULING

A federal judge ordered the IRS last week to turn over the list of 298 groups it targeted for intrusive scrutiny as the agency defends against a potential class-action lawsuit by tea party groups who claim their constitutional rights were violated.  The IRS had argued it shouldn’t have to release the names because doing so would violate privacy laws, but Judge Susan J. Dlott, who sits in the Southern District of Ohio, rejected that claim and ordered the tax agency to turn over any lists or spreadsheets detailing the groups that were targeted and when they filed their applications.

COMMENTS:
Knowing that it will probably be three or so years before this matter gets heard by the Supreme Court, and that the Obama administration term will be long over by then, I fully expect the IRS will appeal, appeal and appeal and delay, delay, delay.  So much for transparency.

TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Would you be willing to go to war against Iran over their nuclear program?  (Horace ~ Xenia, OH)
A. If there is no other alternative to prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons, the answer is a firm and unapologetic yes.  Just because you don’t like war is no reason to be a weanie.

Q. I understand a Russian fighter jet buzzed a U.S. reconnaissance plane in Europe the other day?  (Melody ~ Casper, WY)
A. Yes.  According to a tweet sent out on Saturday by the European Command, the United States is not happy about the incident that occurred near Poland on Tuesday.  Pentagon spokesman Mark Wright said the Russian jet was ”unsafe and unprofessional due to the aggressive maneuvers it performed in close proximity to their aircraft and its high rate of speed.”  It looks as if Putin is feeling friskier by the day.

Q. Why are Obama and Kerry so adamantly trying to keep Congress from weighing in on the Iran nuke deal?  (Bea ~ Sausalito, CA)
A. Whenever they get their backs up, they’re hiding something, and it’s not the pickle jar.
