We all know the sickening stories of how our ancestors captured and butchered American Indians, and then sent the remaining "savages" off to obscure, hidden, worthless reservations. Then they perpetuated the oppression by putting them on the dole, begging for enough money to provide food and survival. In recent years, tribes have been able to change things by opening casinos and using the profits to improve their education, provide jobs and to address social and health issues on their lands. But, Covid-19 and the closures of casinos associated with declining revenues from those that are open are combining to push tribes backwards into oppression.
