Robert Van Tuinen, a student at Modesto Junior College in California, tried to pass out pocket-size pamphlets of the Constitution on Sept. 17 – a date also known as Constitution Day. Campus authorities told the student he could only pass out the free documents at a tiny designated spot on campus, and only then if he scheduled it several days in advance.
COMMENTS:
Evidently, the right of free speech in this country exists
only in designated areas, at designated times, on an appointment basis and
under rules, guidelines and restrictions promulgated by authorities with the
inherent right to determine when you can flap off at the mouth and what you can
say while you’re doing it. Chairman Mao
would be proud.
TODAY’S QUERIES & ANSWERS:
Q. Just how long will it take for the U.N. to move the
chemical weapons out of Syria? (Erik ~
San Bruno, CA)
A. Sooner than Putin suggested the solution to Obama’s
Syrian dilemma, Syrian forces had already started to disperse their chemical
weapons stockpiles into multiple sites, possibly including shipping some out of
the country to Iran and Libya; others may be buried at undisclosed locations in
the desert sands. It will be a
monumental task for the U.N., once allowed in, to track down and remove
chemical weapons. This is likely to be a
multi-year project. The U.S. estimates
Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime has 1,000 metric tons of chemical and
biological agents.
Q. I am so upset that Planned Parenthood helps women get abortions and our government funds Planned Parenthood. It’s against my religion. What can I do? (Lydia ~ Laramie, WY)
A. More bad news for you: California has passed a law that
allows for people other than licensed physicians to legally perform abortions;
the law was passed at the urging of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of
California, which obviously lobbied with our taxpayer money. Write your Congressman and
your Senator, ask your priest or bishop why your church is not taking a stand
on this issue, and/or contact an attorney if you are willing to spend some money
and sue.
Q. I see that John Kerry is now claiming that the idea for
the U.N. to take control of Syrian chemical stockpiles was his idea. Is that true?
(Willis ~ Prescott, AZ)
A. Do you get the idea that Kerry is gearing up to run again in 2016? I’ve never known Kerry to tell a lie or exaggerate a
thing. For this, he should get a Purple
Heart to hang next to the 98 others he already has.
