OBAMA’S FULL COURT PRESS: Here We Go Again

Obama is pulling out all of the stops, demanding that his new spending bill be passed and passed now; all of it.  He wants Congress to act immediately. 

COMMENTS:

He wants no discussion and absolutely does not want the Tea Party or anyone else to evaluate it.  Just like TARP, this is an emergency.  Just like his stimulus bill, this is an emergency.  Just like ObamaCare, this is an emergency.  He has not done a damned thing about jobs for months, but today he is and he wants it done and over with immediately; it’s suddenly an emergency.  To me, it’s another bum’s rush.  Everything that has been passed under this type of stress going back three years has been an absolute failure.  Yet, he wants… demands that we do it again.  Hurry up.  If Congress buys into this latest Chinese fire drill, there is going to be hell to pay.

Q. Do you know any of the provisions of Obama’s new bill?  How is he going to raise the $470 billion?  (Don ~ Susanville, CA)

A. Tax write-offs, such as medical, mortgage interest, charity… gone.  But, remember what he says; this is not a tax hike.  Once again, he proves he’s a liar.    

Q. Bank of America is laying off 30,000 people?  (Eugene ~ Redding, CA)

A. Yes, and this is only the beginning.  So much for Obama’s program to incentivize hiring with a $4,000 tax credit.  Things could now get real crappy in this country.   

Q. Obama says he is not increasing the national debt, but his spending $470 billion now and then paying for it over ten years.  Doesn’t that increase the national debt, at least for 10 years?  (Perry ~ Salt Lake City, UT)

A. Now you are starting to sound like a terrorist, radical Tea Party member, but what you say happens to be right on.  Once again, he’s a liar.

80 TROOPS INJURED IN AFGHANISTAN BOMB

The Taliban managed to get onto a U.S. military base in Afghanistan with a truck bomb and to set it off.  A Taliban suicide bomber carried out the attack by detonating a large bomb inside a truck carrying firewood.  Five Afghans were killed. 

COMMENTS:

How did the truck get on the base in the first place?  This is a huge lack of security.  What do you think is going to happen in Iraq after we bring all but 3,000 troops home?  We either need to kick the hell out of them or get completely out.  War is hell, not politics.

Q. Why did all of the networks just go on and on and on about things to do with the 10^th anniversary of 9/11?  I thought it was way overdone.  (Madge ~ Hercules, CA)

A. The anniversary was on a Sunday.  Since all of the news seems to come to an abrupt stop on Fridays at 5:00 PM EDT, the networks are clamoring for something the fill their time slots with.  Some go to infomercials, some go to cartoons, and some seize on whatever little news there is around and work it to death.  Certainly, 9/11 was a tragic day and the 10^th anniversary was a big day, but I agree that I saw the towers come down about 50 times too many. 

Q. Where does Obama come up with putting out “his plan” and then demanding that Congress pass it “all or nothing?”  What happened to all of this compromise he has been bellyaching about?  (Izzie ~ Las Vegas, NV)

A. Obama believes in compromise, just as long as he gets his way.   

Q. With Obama set to spend another $500 billion on another stimulus, why is the stock market continuing to fall?  (Nancy ~ Lynnwood, WA)  

A. Foreign markets are tanking.  Just yesterday, Asian markets tumbled again.  Investors know from experience that the last stimulus did not work.  They don’t like the prospects for improvement.

INFAMY

President Roosevelt said that December 7^th, 1941 was the “The day that will live in infamy.”  Up until September 11, 2001, that was true. 

When you stop and think about it, the attack on Pearl Harbor was “over there.”  It wasn’t here, on the mainland.  Hawaii wasn’t even a state yet.  Certainly it was an attack on the United States and the nation was in shock, but it was still abstract to some extent.  All of those ships got sunk, those lives lost… over there.  It took time for the news to spread around the country in those of days of radio and newspapers.  And, when we dropped the bombs on Japan, that was the end of that threat.     

When you turned on the TV on the morning of September 11, 2001, you saw the horror of war right here under our noses.  The sense of security in our lives in the midst of a world full of turmoil was suddenly and urgently interrupted.  The networks were all over the story and we became aware of every intimate detail of that horror almost as soon as it occurred.  For those of us watched it all happen, reruns today are a vivid reminder that the threat continues.   

What I am saying here is not to diminish the memory of Pearl Harbor.  But, the descriptive terms “A day that will live in infamy,” have evolved over the last decade to relate more, I think, to 9/11.  As we go about our ways today, remembering 9/11, Pearl Harbor is a more distant and fading memory. 

Both tragic attacks were the result of American arrogance and complacency.  Roosevelt had been warned that an attack might occur and he dismissed it.  Bush had also been warned and he, too, dismissed it.  In retrospect, both Presidents should have been tossed out on their ears, because it is their job to protect and defend us, to ensure us of our security; they both failed. 

The real lesson here, of course, is that we are not living in a secure world.  Mankind has not yet evolved to the point that there can be peaceful coexistence.  And so it is that we must be constantly alert to the dangers that our enemies pose to us.  We must not arbitrarily dismiss warnings of impending attack.  In this day and age, we can no longer trust our neighbors, either.  They may be radical Muslims getting ready to do a dirty deed or they may be radical Americans getting ready to do the same dirty deed. 

September 11, 2001 may well be the new “day of infamy.”  Let’s not set ourselves up for another one.

UNION VIOLENCE ERUPTS

Hundreds of International Longshore and Warehouse Union members (ILWU) stormed a new grain terminal at the Port of Longview in Washington on Thursday.  They overwhelmed guards, smashed windows in the guard shack and dumped grain. Six guards were trapped for a couple of hours, absolutely could not get out and feared for their lives because of the size and hostility of the crowd. 

COMMENTS:

And here you just had the President of the AFL-CIO tell his members to “take out” the Tea Party members.  Just what do you think is going to happen next?

A. I was going up the grade out of Old Station toward Susanville when I moved a tad to the right because an oncoming car was hugging the center line.  My front right wheel went off the pavement on the shoulder slightly lower.  As I was trying to bring the car back onto the pavement, the wheel hit a rock on the shoulder and blew out the front suspension.  The car ended up on its side; two guys came along and got me out and I walked away from it.  Totaled the car.  Let that be a lesson for you.

A. Because they are second-class citizens, like the Tea Party members.

A. GE also doesn’t pay any taxes here.  I wouldn’t buy any GE product if they were the only company in business.

NOT SO FAST, BARACKO BABY…

After a month in waiting and a lot of hype, President Obama offered the country his “new” jobs and economic proposals last night.  He wants his new jobs planned passed “right away;” if you turned your back and just listened, he sounded like a mad tyrant laying down the law.  He gave the Republicans a public tongue lashing that defies propriety. 

COMMENTS:

Here you are, wanting to spend another $450 billion in a manner that has not proven productive in the past. Then, you say that it really won’t cost is $450 billion because you are going to have cuts in other areas, but you refuse to identify the cuts.  Furthermore, if you cut some other areas, you are taking off the table spending that could be used by your “special super sub-committee” to reduce the deficit, so you are very much adding $450 billion to the debt-deficit problem.  Now, if your ideas were new and more likely to produce some beneficial results, this could be considered money well-spent and necessary to get our economy going again.  But, that’s not the case, and all this amounts to is more of your Obamanomics which just simply have been proven to not work.  You make it sound as if he can put a million construction workers back to work tomorrow, but we know from your last go around that you need a plan, drawings, EPA reviews and approvals; it does not happen overnight. 

This Administration has historically misstated financial projections on everything it has done from day one.  They put out new jobs figures one week, and then revise them downward the following week when no one is watching, for example.  So, if they say $450 billion, figure on $1 trillion; that would be exactly what has happened with the ObamaCare projections. 

Watch what he does and don’t listen to what he says.  His track record is ugly.  This guy has no clue.

A. They exercised their freedom of choice.   

Q. Why are the Republicans against plugging tax loopholes?  (Kenny ~ Los Angeles, CA)

A. Because they are sometimes downright stupid.  We all want everyone to pay their fair share.  Close the frickin’ loopholes.  And, while they’re at it, they also need to cut out wasteful spending.  I was appalled to find out that in Brigham City, Utah where I spent my formative years in life, they took $320,000 in DHS money designed to bolster our nation’s security against terrorist attacks, and they used it to refurbish a senior center.  They should be made to pay that money back and the people who did it should be fined.  If that is not misappropriation, I don’t know what is.   

Q. So, the guy who did the shooting in Carson City was a Mexican national?  I suppose he was illegal, also?  (Teresa ~ Sun Valley, NV)

A. No, according to officials, he was here on a valid passport and was working in Lake Tahoe.  Now, he was involved with police in some far off mental issue back in 2000 or so, so he’s been here 11 years on a passport?  Come on, give me a break.  He was here illegally and the authorities did not do their jobs.

DISAPPOINTING GOP STANCE ON PRESIDENT’S SPEECH

The Republicans have decided not to give a rebuttal to Obama’s economic and jobs speech tomorrow night.  Nancy Pelosi said, "The Republicans' refusal to respond to the president's proposal on jobs is not only disrespectful to him, but to the American people."

COMMENTS:

First of all, I don’t care what Nancy Pelosi said.  Secondly, I don’t care anymore if the Republicans are disrespectful to Obama, especially after some of the tricks he has pulled and dirty names he and his cohorts have used.  To hell with him.  But, I do think that the Republicans should respond to what he has to say.  They are asserting that their advance notice of what he is going to say has nothing new in it except more calls for more spending, so they don’t feel that what he has to say merits a response.  But, not every American is attuned to politics and government and they do have the right to hear both sides of any issue.  I think this was a bad move on their part and that it will come back to haunt them.

Q. Why didn’t Obama say something about Hoffa’s attack on the Tea Parties?  (Ollie ~ Reno, NV)

A. Obama has been quick to criticize anything and everything a Republican or Tea Party member says.  But, he now says that he will not be responsible for what anyone in the Democratic Party says.  There is a school of thought that he put Hoffa up to making those remarks; given the anti-Tea Party rhetoric gushing forth from the lips of every Obama crony in Washington lately, I agree.  What Hoffa had to say was niggardly and penurious, and Obama's silence is stirring the hot coals of unrest in this country.   

Q. What’s your take on the shooting in Carson City?  (Ginger, New Washoe City, NV)

A. Well, the anti-gun lobby hasn’t really weighed in yet.  The guy had known mental issues; I will be interested to find out how he was able to purchase the guns he had.  I had thought no one was in the restaurant who had a concealed weapon, but I was partially wrong.  The owner of a nearby barbeque outlet was at the scene and had a concealed weapon, but did not use it because the shooter had a fully automatic weapon and was spraying bullets everywhere.  That was a correct decision which goes to show that people who have the training necessary to hold a concealed weapons permit are not “psycho gun owners.”   It’s still a sad commentary on our society and what our country has become. 

Q. They are saying that the biggest threat we have to homeland security is domestic terrorism.  Why?  (Erma ~ Chico, CA)

A. There are a lot of sites on the Internet touting it.  Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups are promoting internal terrorism.  There is a lot of social unrest in the country due to unemployment and an adverse political climate.   The FBI reports that the number of potential domestic terrorists is increasing at an alarming rate.  And Obama and his cronies want us to be without guns and defenseless?
