The advent of Covid-19 and the requirements associated with maintaining safe medical care sent bottom lines plummeting. Now, well over 400 rural hospitals are in danger of shutting down.
The paperwork burden placed on hospitals of all sizes has greatly increased costs, while revenues have been declining. When rural hospitals close down, people have to travel much greater distances to seek emergency medical care. Skilled jobs are lost. People move away and communities suffer.
