KERRY: WE NEED TO CURE DEBT PROBLEM

Senator John Kerry said in his Senate confirmation hearings for Secretary of State yesterday that the United States simply must resolve its debt issue if we want other nations to respect us and take us seriously.  "In these days of fiscal crisis ...  I am especially cognizant of the fact that we can't be strong in the world unless we're strong at home," Kerry said. "The first priority will be that America, at last, puts its fiscal house in order." 

COMMENTS:

I seldom agree with Kerry on anything, but he’s absolutely correct on this.  With an attitude like that, I’m very surprised that Obama nominated him.

A. It has been found to convert normal white fat to brown fat which burns off much more rapidly with exercise.  I used to know a 325 pound guy who was a real sex maniac and took Viagra regularly.  He had so many women and lost so much weight that eventually, he became invisible. 

Q. Do you think Kerry will be tougher on Iran’s nuclear ambitions than Clinton?  (Yancey ~ Vancouver, WA)

A. In this Administration all policy is set by the White House.  There will be no change in our dealing with Iran.  In fact, Kerry said that he prefers to deal with these problems with carrots as opposed to gunfire.  In my opinion, this Administration is reactive as opposed to being proactive.  So, we can expect that after Iran nukes Israel, Kerry will show up at the scene with carrots. 

Q. Given what happened on The Hill with Wednesday’s Clinton testimony, do you think we’ll ever know the story on Benghazi?  (Kylie ~ Bozeman, MT)

A. The Republicans never asked the right questions and never followed up on important issues and answers.  They were not quite as effective as a houseful of wet noodles in getting at the meat of things.  I think they were even less effective than they were with Fast & Furious, and we all know what happened with that story… or what didn’t.

UNION MEMBERSHIP DECLINING

Union membership has dropped to 11.3% of all American workers, the lowest since the 1930’s, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

 

COMMENTS:

The National Labor Relations Board should be representative of the labor force.  Accordingly, no more than 11.3% should be union affiliated.  But, the fact is that they are all affiliated in some way with unions.  How can there be a fair and neutral decision-making process?  It appears to me that more and more members of the labor force are just as unhappy with unions as the rest of us are.

A. Because it was a non-event.  At any other time in our history, particularly in a large city like Houston, that story would have been relegated to one of the inside pages of Section B or C of the newspaper.  It may or may have not made the evening newscast.  But, because of the current anti-gun climate, any such shooting gets blown entirely out of proportion, makes national headlines and gets the liberal-left anti-gun politicians wagging their collective tongues.  Do they ever show what happens in a legally-sanctioned gun tournament?  No.  Why not?  They have an agenda.  Case closed.

A. For one thing, I didn’t listen to it.  I learned a long time ago not to pay any attention to what he says, but to watch what he does.  He’s an accomplished, pathological liar and you cannot believe a single word that he says.  If you want to know what’s going on with Obama, watch what he does.

REMEMBER THAT KEYSTONE PIPELINE?

The controversial pipeline got a shot at life this week when Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman approved a new route for it through his state.  "Construction and operation of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline, with the mitigation and commitments from Keystone would have minimal environmental impacts in Nebraska," he wrote in a letter to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, who have opposed the pipeline and done everything possible to scuttle it in the past.  The State Department will eventually make a recommendation to the President.

COMMENTS:

It seems to me that the illustrious Jeremiah Wright said something about “all of the chickens coming home to roost.”  Obama pushed so many things past the November elections for obvious political reasons, and now he has to face them.  Just wait until Americans find out how badly ObamaCare and the new taxes are going to screw their pocketbooks.  As for the pipeline, I figure he’ll find a way to do a fancy two-step around the problem.

A. Well, they think they’re going to pressure the Senate to pass a budget.  Here they go again; here’s how the game will be played.  The Senate will pass a budget the Republicans can’t possibly live with; the House will turn it down and get blamed for not playing ball.  Then, they’ll cave in and give the President what he wants… unfettered ability to spend, spend and spend.  You know, everyone I talk to is so sick and tired of this crap.  Maybe if the Republican Party would just go ahead and implode, they could build a decent political party out of the ashes.  I’ll bring the marsh mellows.

A. Anytime you have a weakening of the moral fiber of society, that’s bad.  How can you be against the death penalty if you’re for abortion?  What’s wrong with gassing seniors at age 65 so they don’t become burdens on society?  You want to tell people they can’t have guns because they might kill somebody, but then you turn around and kill a fetus yourself.  No, it’s not good for the country.

1. Outright confiscation of “assault weapons”
2. Confiscation [of] ten round or larger clips
3. Mandatory statewide database for ALL Guns
4. Continue to allow pistol permit holder’s information to be released to the public

6. Limit the number of rounds in a magazine to 5 and confiscation and forfeiture of banned magazines
7. Limit possession to no more than two (2) magazines
8. Limit purchase of guns to one gun per person per month

GROWING CONCERN OVER IRAN

More and more recent national security advisers and top military brass are voicing concern over how close Iran is to nuclear weapons capability.  Iran, in the meanwhile, is taking more and more to obfuscation and delay, even in the face of sanctions that are causing severe financial hardships within the country.  There are also concerns that Iran feels less and less of a threat to its plans from the U.S. due to Obama’s selection of his new national security team.  And General William Shelton is warning that Iran has beefed up its cyber warfare capabilities.   

COMMENTS:

Let us not forget that Obama has said several times since he took office that he was okay with North Korea’s and Iran’s nuclear programs.  It is only when he is directly confronted with the word “weapons” as opposed to “program” that he says Iran can’t have them.  He has also issued so many ultimatums to Iran on its nuclear ambitions over the last four years that I’ve lost track of them; yet, we’ve done nothing.  I think we Americans have every reason to be worried about what is going to happen in 2013 on this issue.

A. I certainly understand and agree with the fact that we need to prevent guns from getting into the hands of mentally unfit people.  Having said that, I have to point to doctor-client privilege and the right to privacy.  I also have a problem with the word of one person, one doctor, being able to deny gun rights to anyone; doctors make mistakes, too.  Whatever answer we ultimately come up with, there has to be some appeal process provided to the Court system before we deny someone of a Constitutional right; otherwise, the Supreme Court may well find any law dealing with the issue to be unconstitutional and that won't solve anything, either.   

Q. I heard yesterday that the pro golfer, Phil Mickelson, is ticked off about taxes.  What’s up with that?  (Keith ~ Reno, NV)

A. He might end up in Reno, since he was instrumental in starting the pro tournament there at Montreux Country Club.  With the increase of taxes on the Federal level and California’s recent tax hikes, he’ll be giving up 63% of his income to taxes, plus the taxes he pays on airfare and everything else.  That’s beyond oppressive and I don’t blame him for leaving California; in fact, I encourage everyone making any decent money at all to get the hell out of California while you can still afford the move.  Let the damned state government dry up and go to hell. Mexico would like to have it back, anyway.

A. An inauguration is a treasured moment rich in American history and custom.  I turned it off.

HOUSE TO RAISE DEBT CEILING…FOR THREE MONTHS

Word came at the tail-end of the week that House Republicans will vote to raise the national debt ceiling for enough to last another three months when the country runs out of money next month. 

COMMENTS:

This move was evidently in response to Obama’s snarling that he would not negotiate on raising the national debt, that spending cuts as part of the package would not be allowed.  Obama further threatened to cut off military and social security paychecks if the House didn’t do as he demanded.  Let’s get serious; we all knew what the prognosis was going to be when the House caved on the “Fiscal Cliff.”  This whole thing is nothing but a wild political charade.  Let’s just go ahead and raise the debt ceiling to $25 trillion and let Obama spend whatever he wants.  We don’t have to pay for it anyway and we won’t be around to face our great grand-kids when the taxes get up to 75%.  Let’s just quit the fight and take the easy way out; after all, isn’t that what America is all about these days?  I mean, isn't it written in the wind anyway?

A. In the evolution of life, the dragon and dinosaur have disappeared.  It is a natural occurrence that some species cease to exist.  Yes, some demented segments of our society have gone around the bend.  I would place anyone who voted for Obama’s reelection in that category.

A. Probably not, and they have good precedent because, the Federal government is not enforcing immigration laws.

Q. How do you feel about the House efforts to stop Congressional pay until a legitimate budget is passed?  (Corrine ~ Cedar City, UT)

A. I certainly agree with the idea.  The Senate hasn’t even bothered to produce a budget to vote upon since Bush left office.  That factor, coupled with Obama’s claim to have total control over the debt ceiling, add up to uncontrolled spending.  However, some say that any Bill of Congress affecting pay doesn’t take place until the following session.  My position is that they can suspend pay any time, but eventually it past be paid; you can’t change the rate of pay or deny pay entirely. 

Q. California is beginning to enact laws that ban smoking at home.  What do you think?  (Fawn ~ Rancho Cucamonga, CA)

A. That is a total violation of personal rights.  I’m not an advocate of smoking, but I am an advocate of individual rights.  There are a total of 18 cities and counties where smoking is now banned in residential condominiums and apartments.  If we allow this type of legislation to pass and prevail, we are forgoing all of our Constitutional rights.  First thing you know, they’ll ban 32-ounce soft drinks.
